The National broadcaster LRT  started the selection process of the Lithuanian representative for the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Several changes are being made from this year’s National Final: Songwriters and artist will apply individually!

Singers will go through multiple stages throughout the competition starting with auditions which has been a popular and quite successful approach for some countries. The audition stages are used by many talent shows including Idol, X-Factor and the Voice in many different countries. LRT will braodcast five different shows between December 21st 2013 and January 18th 2014. Only six acts will move on to the Final Stage of the selection process.

The composers will apply separately and if  chosen by the broadcaster, have the ability to choose one of the acts that qualified for the Finals to perform their song in collaboration with LRT.

Those that are interested in taking part can apply until November 15th, 2013. The Final is scheduled to air in February with the actual date not known as of today.

Lithuania managed to qualify for the Finals at the Eurovision Song Contest for the past three years, the last time they didn’t make the cut was in 2010 when Inculto was unable to gain enough support with their song. “Eastern European Funk”.

How do you like the approach of picking artists and sonwriters individually? Do you like the idea or is Lithuania going down the wrong path? Feel free to share your thoughts below or comment on our Forum.
