The moon is rising tonight for Latvia! Samanta Tina just released her Eurovision entry. The song got revealed after the last episode of her five-part documentary “Kā uzvarēt Eirovīzijā? Samantas Tīnas ceļš uz Roterdamu”. However, for the people who couldn’t watch the documentary on Latvian television, the song premiered on Samanta’s personal YouTube Channel and on the official Eurovision YouTube Channel. You can watch the music video below:
“The Moon Is Rising” was chosen from a total of eleven songs composed for Samanta at a song-writing camp last year. The sonfg is written and produced by Samanta Tina herself, Aminata (represented Latvia in 2015) and SKVR (Oskars Uhaņs). In one of her latest social media post before the release of the music video she tells us about the meaning behind her 2021 Eurovision Entry:
“This song is about powerful and admirable women, about every single woman. I invite not to be afraid of ourselves and of being different. My song invites women to make a crown with their hands and put it on the head to be the ruler of life: to love and believe in ourselves. Then we will be loved by the people around us.
I believe that such an attitude changes the way people treat you, but it is not enough – for this reason, the most important line in my song is: if you have something to say, say it to my face! Let’s accept and love ourselves, let’s be proud of what God has given to us, let’s accept our differences and stand for equality” – Samanta Tina
Samanta already tried several times to represent her country at the Eurovision Song Contest. She competed in the Latvian National final Supernova 5 times earlier (in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2019) before she won in 2020 with her song “Still Breathing.” She even tried it in the Lithuanian National final in 2013 and 2017.
Due the cancellation of the contest in 2020, LTV announced that Samanta will get a second chance to represent her country in the 2021 edition. We will see her perform “The Moon is Rising” on the 20th of May in the second half of semi-final 2.
