Tonight, the first heat of Supernova will air. 4 songs will chosen for the next round. Miks Dukurs is one of the artists whom is selected and today he found some time to chat with us about their upcoming participation in Supernova.

Hello Miks Dukurs

First of all thank you for your time talking to us. How are you ? Can you introduce yourselves ? What can you tell us about yourself?

Honestly, I’m a bit tired but happier than ever! Cause I’m a father! He’s so little right now and I feel that I wanna be with him all the time! But I also have to work a lot cause I wanna great future for him. I’m singer-songwriter and producer in one person so it’s hard to manage my time right now but I’m getting better with that. Besides my family life I enjoy being on stage so I’m having a lots of live shows here in Latvia and I think thats the best part for all of it! To actually meet those people who listens to my music! It’s just great! So yea, I’m loving husband, father and musician and I love my life and being alive.

Your song that you will be presenting for Supernova is “Spiritual Priest”. What can you tell us about the song?

It’s about believing yourself! I believe Every one of us is very special and every single one of us can make a huge difference! You just have to believe in yourself, love what your doing and share it with others so they also start to believe and then we will live in a great place called earth.

What was the inspiration for the song, and did you write it specifically for the national final in Ukraine and Eurovision?

No I didn’t wrote it specially for Eurovision. Me and my band were at London – touring and we had some amazing / spiritual experience which we all remember for the rest of our lives! But it’s a long story and hard to tell.. anyway.. we were at our hotel room after this spiritual experience and we wrote the song called “Spiritual Priest”. It was funny cause we didn’t have any instruments except for acoustic guitar so we recorded demo on my phone – me singing, bass player sang that bass riff you can here there now and guitar player played those few magic chords. Then I got home and recorded the song at my home studio. It was so spiritual, so natural.

What is your impression of the Eurovision Song Contest in general? Do you watch it every year? What is your favourite entry?

I’m watching it every year and it’s just huge! Really great show and every entry is something special to remember. Most of all loving that huge stage and amazing audience and not mention all those millions watching it live! It’s crazy! Crazy good 😉 and I wanna be there some day – in front of that size of audience. It would be a great experience for me as a musician of course.

Apart from the Eurovision Song Contest , where would you dream to do a performance?

Thats a great question! Of course I thought about it! The O2 Arena in London is definitely must have for me! 🙂 But it would be crazy if that would happen! OMG! I have closer dreams about some bigger concert in my country where all the friends of music could come together and I could play all of songs at one big performance with me and my band on stage, lights and video projections and huge sound! It would be amazing. But actually it doesn’t have to be some huge venue it could also be somewhere nice with some great smiling people, me and my acoustic guitar. Yea.. just somewhere people listens.

Whom is your personal musical stars that follow a lot and why?

Ouu, there’s a lot! I can’t just name one cause I’m listening all kinds of musical genres and there’s so many great artists out there nowadays! There’s something great in single one of us! And so it is about music!

What is your biggest success so far for you?

Becoming a father!

What’s the one thing that might surprise people about you?

I’m not smoking (anything) and also not drinking alcohol at all. I hope that’s interesting not just for those who knew me before cause I used to be a real party animal but also for those who just met me. I just realised that I can easy go without it! Now I’m spending my days much more meaningful.

Where do we find you on a Sunday Afternoon?

Probably at home with my family or writing new music on my laptop. Sometimes we visit some friends to play some table games or watch some movie, make something to eat together.
