Today the Polish pre-selection Polskie Kwalifikacje is set to take place, with eleven hopeful artists competing to represent their country on the Eurovision stage in May.

One of these hopefuls is singer and songwriter Janusz Radek, who first attempted to represent Poland back in 2004. Since then he has performed in numerous musical theater productions in Poland, appeared and acted in films, and now he wants to tackle the Eurovision stage again.

Hello there Janusz, welcome to ESCUnited.com! We’re so excited to have the opportunity to interview you today. Before we get deep in questions – how are you doing in the build-up to Polskie Kwalifikacje?

I feel very well and am healthy, which is important for the fitness of my throat. This of course, brings peace to my well-being.

Before we dive into talks of Eurovision I’d love a chance for our readers to get to know you a bit better! What are 2-3 things our readers would be surprised to learn about you?

I have been a singer for 30 years and I love what I do. – I toured Europe on foot, walking from my home in Wieliczka to Santiago de Compostela. It took me 5 years, walking one month each year, totaling over 5,000 km.

And I noticed that you have an extensive background in musical theater so I want to ask – if you could cast yourself for a dream role in any musical, which would you select for yourself and why?

I would like to play in a musical version of “Perfume,” if such a thing were to be made. To play Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, a character of a man who used his genius sense to seize power over people who achieved nothing more.

Let’s pretend you’re at a karaoke night and you must perform at least three songs. Which songs would you be picking and can you tell us why?

I have never been to such an evening. If I were to find myself there for some reason, I would sing two songs, those that the audience wants, and a third one of my own. “Dziękuję za miłość.” This song convinces everyone who didn’t know me before and are ready to stay with me in the musical world.

If I am correct, this year will be your second time competing in the Polish pre-selection for Eurovision, with your last attempt being in 2004. What made you decide to try again after all these years?

After so many years, I sing just as well, if not better. I have a great song that I want to sing to the audience, and I have something to sing about.

How would you describe your relationship with Eurovision? Would you consider yourself to be a fan of the contest?

I feel almost sentimental about my relationship with Eurovision. I remember it from the times when one missed it and waited for it like a breath of freedom. It’s a stage where you can express yourself in a very personal sense, of course, to the extent of your own openness.

Your song for this year is titled “In Cosmic Mist” and was written by you. Can you explain how this song was written and what message you hope it will send to the viewers?

“IN COSMIC MIST” was created from observing and contacting people. From what one reads and imagines about the future, and that future lies in taking a bold step in renewing the relationship between us.

Now I know that you can’t reveal any detail about your staging plans for the Polish national selection, but if I asked you to describe it using only 10 words what would you say?

Sincerity, credibility, voice, expression.

As we close our time together is there anything you would like to share with our readers including how to connect with you on social media or support your music?

Through social media, you can get to know me initially and get an idea of what I do, especially during live streams that I do every Wednesday at 9 PM from my home. Then I invite you to a live concert after which you will have no doubts about the accuracy of choosing me and my song IN COSMIC MIST.

Thank you so much for your time Janusz and wishing you the best of luck in the Polish Pre-selection!

The final of Polskie Kwalifikacje is set to take place today on TVP at 20:45 CET.
