Rai, the Italian broadcaster, has confirmed Italy’s participation in the 2024 Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
According to a report issued on July 19, the broadcaster will officially announce Italy’s contestant(s) and song in September. It has previously been reported that the country will be represented by Rozzano’s Simone Grande following his victory on the second season of “The Voice Kids.” During the program’s finale in December 2023, host Antonella Clerici announced that the country’s representative(s) for Junior Eurovision 2024 would be selected from the twelve finalists for the second consecutive year.
The 2024 contestant will follow Melissa and Ranya, who placed 11th in the 2023 Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Nice with “Un mondo giusto,” with 81 points. Melissa Agliottone won the inaugural season of “The Voice Kids” in March 2023, while Ranya Moufidi was a finalist.
Italy has entered every edition of the contest since the country’s winning debut in 2014 with the internally selected song “Tru primo grande amore” by Vincenzo Cantiello. Italy’s second-best result occurred in 2016, when “Cara mamma” by Fiamma Boccia placed third – the last time the country has placed within the top five.
The 2024 Junior Eurovision Song Contest will be held in November 16 at the Caja Mágica in Madrid. So far, 14 countries have confirmed participation. Estonia, Germany, North Macedonia, Portugal and Spain have announced their selected artists.
