Italian broadcaster RAI has confirmed that Italy will make their debut in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest this year, when the contest heads to Malta in November. The broadcasting and organisation of an entry will be run by RAI Gulp, a children’s channel run by the national broadcaster.

Negotiations for other countries to join the contest are still underway, with countries such as Hungary and Czech Republic hinting at a possible entry in 2014. Executive Supervisor for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, Vladislav Yakolev, said;

It’s wonderful to be able to welcome RAI Gulp to the Junior Eurovision family. Italy and Malta have a special musical friendship – with both Gaia and Federica having taken part in ‘Ti lascio una canzone’, and Gaia also having been in in San Remo Junior – so it seems only natural that Italy should choose to make its Junior Eurovision debut in Malta this November.

JESC 2014 will take place in Malta on 15 November 2014. So far, ten countries have confirmed participation and tickets will be on sale shortly.
