MTVA, The Hungarian National Broadcaster has confirmed today the country’s participation in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen.
It has also been announced that this year’s entry will be selected through the “A Dal” (The Song) format. This format was successfully introduced in 2012 and includes 2 national semi-finals and one grand final. Dates are yet to be confirmed.
A Dal was introduced in an attempt to create a Hungarian contest, with Hungarian musical tastes being presented to a European audience. Songs submissions are open to the public until December 1st. The winning song will be selected by both a jury and the audience.
Unlike prior contests, this year lyrics may not only be in Hungarian but also in English or in any language of the official national and ethnic minorities living in Hungary.
Hungary debuted in Eurovision in 1993 and has participated 11 times since. Their best result was placing 4th in 1994.
