After a night of fun and excitement live from Malmo – we now have the first ten qualifiers for the Eurovision 2024 Grand Final!

Tonight’s show was broadcast live from the Malmö Arena in Sweden, which was also selected to host the contest in 2013 as well. Tonight’s hosts were newcomer Malin Åkerman and veteran host for Sweden Petra Mehe – who will be hosting all three shows this week.

The overall show

The show was kicked off by a Eurovision medley of big stars  Eleni Foureira, Eric Saade, and Chanel, who each performed new version of their hit Eurovision songs. As expected the fans in the arena loved every moment and it kicked off a night of highly memorable performances.

The running order for the semi-final was decided prior to tonight’s show and would see the countries perform in the following order:

  1. Cyprus 🇨🇾 – Silia Kapsis “Liar”
  2. Serbia 🇷🇸 – Teya Dora “Ramonda”

In addition to these performances, two of the Big 5 countries along with Sweden performed their songs and voted in the semi-final tonight: the United Kingdom’s Olly Alexander with “Dizzy”, Germany’s ISAAK “Always on the Run”, and Sweden’s very own Marcus and Martinus with “Unforgettable”. These performances were mixed in between the other performances to give the artists and their songs extra exposure to the viewers.

The ten qualifiers from semi-final one

After another blocks of intervals featuring Eurovision “king” Johnny Logan covering Loreen’s winning song “Euphoria” and a full concert from Sweden 2018 artist Benjamin Ingrosso, the voting lines closed and hosts Malin and Petra began to announce the qualifiers.

The following acts were announced to have made it through to Saturday’s grand final, in announcement order:

  1. Serbia 🇷🇸 – Teya Dora
  2. Portugal 🇵🇹 – Iolanda

That means that Iceland, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Australia, and Poland failed to qualify and have been eliminated from the contest. As is Eurovision tradition though, they will still participate in both the jury and public votes for the final as a participating country.

The next show will be the second semi-final set to be broadcast on Thursday May 9th at 21:00 CET, and will feature 16 acts competing for the remaining 10 spots in the Grand Final.
