Two of Europe’s Divas, the Icelandic Hera Bjork and the Maltese Chiara, combine their vocal talents in a new cover of Dolly Parton’s 1980 hit song “9 to 5”. The song was produced by Orlygur Smari and is released on a new Two Divas EP from Hands Up Music. Although Hera Bjork and Chiara have been friends for several years now this is the first time they sing together.
“We’ve talked about doing a duet for a couple of years but somehow it hasn’t worked out until now. When Valgeir Magnusson at Hands Up Music suggested the song “9 to 5″ everything just clicked, and when we got Orlygur Smari on board, the outcome was bound to be good,” says Hera Bjork about the collaboration.
“When we first met and started talking, we realized we were both big fans of each other as a singer. We laughed a lot and decided to do something together. And now when it finally happened everything worked out so perfectly. We got the opportunity to perform the song live in Munich last week, and with all the excitement of a live performance and the positive feedback from the audience we just had the time of our lives. Those moments are truly amazing,” adds Chiara.
Icelandic diva Hera Bjork is most famous for her 2010 Eurovision performance of the song “Je Ne Sais Quoi”. She is also well known from the Dansk Melody Grand Prix 2009, where she became in 2nd place with her song “Someday”. Hera Bjork again raised attention in 2011 with her song “Feel the Love Tonight”, a song that was selected as the 2011 Gaypride song in several countries and is now the theme song for Mr. Gay USA. Her latest hit, “Because You Can”, won the Silver Seagull (Gaviota de Plata) for song of the year in the Viña del Mar International Song Contest in Chile earlier this year, where her performance was broadcasted live to about 150 million viewers around the world.
Maltese diva Chiara is most famous for her 2005 Eurovision song “Angel”. The song, which landed in 2nd place, has since then become one of Eurovision’s most beloved songs. Her 2005 participation in the Eurovision Song Contest was not her first time in the contest. In 1998 she became 3rd with her beautiful performance of the song “The One I Love”. She then returned to Eurovision in 2009 with the song “What If We”, and, as many remember, she once more enchanted Europe with her performance and got through to the Final in Moscow. Recently Chiara has released two new songs in a new style for her. The songs “Forget Forgetting Me” and “Zarbun” have been very popular on Europe’s dance floors in the last couple of months.
