Happy New Eurovision Year
Happy New Eurovision Year

From everyone here at ESCUnited.com we would like to wish you all a very happy new year and wish you an amazing 2016!

What can we expect from 2016 in the world of Eurovision?

The Voting – Well we have heard from SVT that they have big plans for the 2016 contest with some changes they wish to put forward to the EBU in order to make the voting more exciting! But, what could this mean? Will they attempt to revamp the whole voting system? Could this mean the removal of the 12 points? or could they just change the way the results are announced? It’s all pretty much just speculation at this point until SVT reveal they hopes, but if they get their way then we can expect some big changed to the world’s favourite song contest.

United Kingdom – The BBC will be starting off 2016 with Eurovision news! Maybe not for the general public, but today is the day that they will be contacting the acts who have been shortlisted, stating the successful teams will be contacted “No later than the 1st of January”. So the BBC will be making a few people’s 2016 a very memorable one today. So who will succeed Electro Velvet? We should expect some news from the BBC or at least the very happy acts in the coming days.

The Eurovision Team –  With the resignations and firings of some of the Eurovision team in 2015 we will be looking to 2016 with eager eyes, awaiting the news of the new JESC supervisor and who will replace Sietse Bakker as well as Kath Lockett. There are big changes being brought to the Eurovision Song Contests, even if SVT don’t get their way.

National Finals – 2016 will see the first National Final in just two days, when the Belgian EuroSong begins. January looks pretty empty with regards to National Finals, up to now we only know that Malta, Belarus and Belgium will select their songs, and this will come as no shock considering the 2016 Eurovision seems to be put off by most broadcasters, with only one song being announced at this late stage, which seems to be the slowest start to a National Final season since the rules changed regarding the release date for ESC songs from the 1st of January to the 1st of September (previous year)

So, once again we would like to wish you a happy 2016 and may the best song win!
