The artists whom will participate in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest will soon start their journey to Kyiv. Demy, who will wave the greek flag in the upcoming competition. She was announced last January and last March the greeks have voted for This Love to represent Greece in Kyiv. Definitely, Demy has a busy schedule until she goes to Kyiv but she found time to talk to us about her upcoming Eurovision Song Contest preparations.
Hello Demy
First of all thank you for your time talking to us. How are you ? Can you introduce yourselves ? What can you tell us about yourself?
It’s my pleasure! I’m great, I am preparing for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv as I will be representing Greece with my song This is Love !
What is your impression of the Eurovision Song Contest in general? Do you watch it every year? What is your favourite entry?
I ‘ve always watched it at home when I could. The past few years I usually work so I watch the entries on youtube the next day. I always thought it’s the ultimate honor to sing for your country in Eurovision, and I watched some entries with awe. My favourite of all times is Waterloo by Abba. I love Abba and their songs and I have a strong connection with their music especially after playing in Mamma Mia this past year.
Who will be your biggest support on your Eurovision journey?
My colleagues, family and friends, and the supporters of me and my song of course!
Last year, Greece failed to qualify from the Semi-Finals for the first time. As an artist, are results important or the most important factor for you is to believe in your song?
I think that creating a song and a performance with love, believing in your song is the greatest start for it to go well! It is logical that when you put a lot of effort and trust in something you want it to go well, but for me the results don’t matter as long as I am proud of the performance when I get off the stage.
This year’s Eurovision Theme is Celebrate Diversity. What was your first thought when you heard about this slogan?
I am happy that each year Eurovision chooses to send a message through the contest. I love this year’s theme. I’ve always been a supporter of diversity, of being yourself and being proud of your unique identity. My song ‘This is Love’ is all about love. Love that has no boundaries, no limitations, love that accepts diversity.
Whom is your personal musical stars that follow a lot and why?
So many! Musicwise, I’d say Beyonce, Fiona Apple, Lauryn Hill, Jessie J, and so many more.
What is your biggest success so far for you?
My biggest success is being able to do what I do, what I love, without losing myself and without having to compromise and change.
What’s the one thing that might surprise people about you?
How persistant I can be when I put my mind on something or to finalise and perfect something when it has to do with my work.
Where do we find you on a Sunday Afternoon?
`Playing Sophie in Mamma Mia musical for the past few months. But when I get to have free time on a Sunday I like to enjoy the sun with my friends, family and dogs 🙂
What is the best bit of advice you have ever been given?
To be myself. To believe in myself and not try to change.
If your life was a song title, what would it be?
I have to say This is love ! Because participating in Eurovision is one of the most important moments of my career so far and after all, love is really important in my life.
What song do you wish you had written?
Who you are by Jessie J.
What is a typical day like for you?
Studio sessions, vocal lessons, interviews, live shows or musical theatre shows, working out, meetings, playing with my dogs, studying for law school certain periods during the year, seeing my friends and family as mych as I can !
