Robert Williams

On August 21st the singer-songwriter Robert Williams passed away at the age of 73 . “Now you will sing from the heavens and we will be listening for eternity” fellow friend-singer Bessy Argyraki wrote on her instagram page.

The well-known artist, performer, and creator, who passed away, found about his pancreatic cancer on March and ever since he was surrounded by his wife, Amalia Dimitriadis, and his three children, Alexandros, Ilenia, and Martha.

Who is Robert Williams?

He begun his career by joining the rock group Poll in the early 70s as their guitarist and singer. In 1974 he started performing as an active pop-rock singer. The year 1974 saw the publication of “Robert Williams,” his debut album and in 1976 the single “Mila mou” from the album “Esy ki ego” was a huge success. After that he decided to compete in the 1977 Eurovision Song Contest as one of the four Greek participants – in which they placed fifth – with the song “Mathima Solfege”.

A common fact for the millennials that are reading this, is the substantial contribution to the Greek television series “Lampsi” which was released in 1991 since he wrote the melody and lyrics to several songs, the most prominent being the opening track, “Mes tin Prosefxi mou”. In 1992 ” Lampsi” the album was released. Another interesting fact about him was his involvement to the hymn of a popular political party in Greece, New Democracy.

On behalf of the entire team, we wish his relatives and family all the best wishes during this difficult time.
