The Portuguese broadcaster RTP confirmed that Portugal will take part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 after taking a break last year due to financial reasons. There are no news whether the entry will be selected via a National Final or if it’s going to be an internal selection.

The Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest Jon Ola Sand also confirmed the news on his Twitter account this morning.

While rumors have been floating round the Internet for months about the possible return of Portugal it was only today the broadcaster officially announced their decision. After several withdrawals from long time participants Cyprus and Croatia, the fans of the contest are obviously quite exciting about the good news.

Portugal has one of the weakest track records in the history of the contest with never even breaking into the Top 5. Their last qualification from the Semi Finals was in 2010 when Filipa Azevedo finished in 18th place with her song “Ha dias assim”.

What are your thoughts, should Portugal select their entry internally to save money or continue with holing a National Final?

So if we include all the people from last year, sans Cyprus and Croatia, we are at 38. Not bad… Let’s hope for another return from B&H or even Poland! A surprise debut entry from a country would also be nice too! When must countries commit by?
