After many endless (and mostly unsuccessful) years of Internal picks, the French broadcaster Télévisions will once again have a public selection to pick the 2014 representative of the Eurovision Song Contest for France.
The selection process is quite lenghty and by doing so the National Broadcaster is hoping to improve their results next year in Copenhagen, Denmark.
In late November a “listening committee” of 14 individuals will meet up to select three entries that are being presented by major record labels to them. The jury will be made up of industry professionals and employees of the broadcaster as well their partner France Bleu. In addition, a Eurovision fan and viewer will be joining the panel.
Natasha St-Piere, the 2001 representative for France, will host the show “Les Chansons D’Abord” on Sundary, January 26th. The three selected songs will be presented and the viewers along with a jury will vote for their favorite. Apparently the results will NOT be revealed that night.
The three songs will be shown on France 3 on a daily basis for four weeks giving the viewers the ability to get attached to those songs and continue to send in their votes. This process will conclude on February 23rd, 2014.
The winner will be revealed on March 2nd, 2014 on France 3.
How do you like the new format? Do you think this will increase France’s odds in Copenhagen next year or is it the wrong approach? Join the lively conversation on our Forum HERE.

Yay for France. The #1 position really hurt them last year. Amandine was great on TV and live at the arena. The French language has such a successful history in Eurovision, but that was back when we had many French-speaking nations participating. I’d love to see more success for the language and the French. How about a French power-ballad a la Pastora!?
