I'm not sure if this had its own thread? But I think it deserves one actually

Background and info

Jugovizija was the ex-Yugoslav selection method for Eurovision (1961-1991), a sort of "mini-Eurovision" where the local broadcasters of the then republics of Federal Socialist Republic of Yugoslavia (Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia), where represented by entries competing against each other.

Jugovizija continued one more year and was in 1992 used as a selection method for then Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. 1993-, as a reaction to the Yugoslav wars, Serbia was banned from international events (like ESC), while the other ex- Yugoslav republics continued to take part in Eurovision as now independent states.

When Serbia & Montenegro returned to Eurovision in 2004, the successor of Jugovizia "Evropesma" was established (one year after the Serbian local "Beovizija" was established), and used as the selection method for ESC. The top entries from the local selections "Beovizija" and "Montevizija" (Montenegro) competed in the united "Evropesma" final.

After a scandalous Evropesma in 2006, Serbia & Montenegro withdrew from Eurovision that same year. After the breakup of Serbia & Montenegro, Beovizija continued to be the selection method for Serbia (until 2009).

Different sources state different information on what countries/broadcasters that actually won Jugovizija by year (and thereafter went on to represent whole Yugoslavia in Eurovision.)

If someone has a reliable source, I would be happy for that source, so we can add a complete list of all the Yugoslavian ESC entries (with info on what country within Yugoslavia that entry "belonged" to).

Thanks for adding the others aswell ;)

So is this list correct? Because I have seen different sources and it seems they differ. I mean the entries are the same, but they differ in what broadcaster it was though.

Anyways thanx for the list!

One my friend who writes on that cite is Eurovision fanatic and for shure that's a right list of participants, and list of broadcasters is correct too.

Zagreb won 10 times, Ljubljana 6, Sarajevo 5, Belgrade 4 and Podgorica 2 times.

I see!

Oh but I trust you, it's just that I wasn't sure because I've seen different sources. But this seems correct.

Zdravko Colic should have definitely gotten a much higher place than 15th. :(

I feel like Yugoslavia was severely underrated in its first two decades of participation.... and then Europe fell in love with Yugoslav rock.

Because the jury for that was just fall in love with Westen entries, UK & Ireland as well....They was ignore hideously to Yugoslavia, Turkey, Greece and early of 90s at mostly countries of the former Iron Curtain entries.

Fortunately, with the introduction of televoting, the elimination of the jury & freedom of language late in the 90s, they got revenge against the West

Re: Yugoslavia & Serbia/Montenegro in Eurovision (a thread about Jugovizija/Evropesma

Though, it is interesting that some of those acts represented the studios which were not studios from their native countries.

For example Ljiljana Petrovic in 1961. She is a Serbian singer (from Novi Sad), the song was written (the lyrics) by one of the biggest Serbian and also Yugoslavian poets Miroslav Mika Antic, but yet she represented TV Ljubljana. But I guess that was the case because the composer (Joza Privsek) was Slovenian.

Anyway, I do like most of the Yugoslavian entries on ESC, and I agree that some were very underrated, but I like the fact that even despite some of them got very low results (like "Brazil" in 1991), they are remembered and are quite popular nowadays. :D

Yeah, I noticed this too! Maybe that's why some sources state different countries for the same entries?

But on the other hand even to this day we had Croats representing Bosnia, Bosnian-Serbs representing Bosnia and maybe some other examples aswell?

Oh yes, and now the juries are back in the same patterns! They always ignored "the local/interesting", and they always preferred songs in English even when there was a language rule.

I don't think they changed much. It's almost like they have the same juries as back then haha.

That doesn't make any sense. Juries were most definitely still in place in the 80's, when Yugoslavia began to consistently place in the top 10, or near it. The reason most entries were underrated from the East, was because their music scenes were still expanding slowly, and the compositions usually weren't as refined or professional sounding as in the West. I love Zdravko Colic, and think he should have gotten higher than 15th, but the composition itself was not that good, it was just his voice that was great. The jury liked ground-breaking music, not old-fashioned folk ballads, which is what many of these Eastern countries were sending.

But this isn't a thread about the juries.

I'd love to see a list of all the participants in Jugovizija, because I think someone said Brena and lots of other famous artists participated but never got a chance to represent.

It was a different time back then. Those type of things didn't really matter to most people.

Yeah, it's correct. Different times, and it didn't really matter, although it is interesting to note :) And yeah it happens nowadays as well (like with Marija Sestic in 2007).

Lepa Brena & Slatki greh participated in 1983 (I think) with song "Sitnije Cile sitnije", and she finished only 7th that year. They participadet in 86 too with song "Miki"

And for me the biggest injustice was fail to Dado Topić & Slađana Milošević on Jugovizija '84 "Ti si princeza" (6th place  ). That song is almost today one of the big music hits ever.

In '82 Maja Odžaklijevska was only second with one great song "Julija"

^^ I agree.

This was one of my favorite songs that we sent in the pre-Serbia (and Montenegro) era. The song was a huge hit over here, but on ESC it didn't score too well.

Ekstra Nena is, imo, one of the best singers in :rs: .
