Am i the only one who wants the Olympics program to be shortened?
There are so many competitions going on simultaneously, from morning to midnight, it's not really interesting. Compare it to football cups, when half of the world wait all day for the games, crowds gather in pubs, and everyone tunes in for the same match. Masses following is what makes a sport prestigious and no one can follow entire Olympics. I only tune in for some really major events, like 100m men final and for games with polish players. And how can an event get the prestige the Olympic rank is supposed to give it, if it's only one of 5416457812 finals that happen that day? Most people can recall the course of events at last Euro or World Cup, hardly anyone (outside China, maybe) knows who's the badminton champion.
I wouldn't really kick sports away from the Olympics, but greatly reduce number of events within each. My number one enemy every four years is swimming xD Timeline of the first week was:
Monday: Phelps
Tuesday: Phelps
Wednesday: Phelps
Thursday: Phelps
Friday... AARRRRRGGGGGHHH!!
Four styles?! Whose idea was it?!! Why do they run in one style only?
Next go all the sports with weight classes. The logic for the highest categories is simple: you won, you're the best. But if you won in a lower category, you're the best out of those who weigh below X kg and that's just silly. They don't have a special category for short people in high jump...
I could go on like this for long. Shooting from 50 meters and from 100 meters, individual diving and synchronised diving, rowing in singles and rowing pairs and rowing in fours and...
Don't get me wrong, i'm very open for new sports at the Olympics, but before they're introduced, i'd like the OG to be more... watchable with their current set of branches.
