Hey, I'd like to know your point of view about the use of the French in the contest, should it be exclusively in French, 50/50 or only English ?

Personally I think the french should be kept mostly for calling out country names/points in the voting. So I voted less French. It's a nice touch....but it feels somewhat like it's just tacked on these days.

Is it possible for someone to say only English without going on a hate campaign of the French language?

It doesn't bother me either way to be honest - it doesn't get on my nerves or anything when they start repeating things in French. If it helps people, then keep it how it is :)

What we have right now is fine. I think it's about 30 parts French -70 parts English or something right? I don't mind it, it's almost to the point of being iconic that it should not be changed. A sense of character will be lost if we add more or if we get rid of the French. After all, douze points is the most iconic ESC phrase out there, and it's in French

50/50 - French is a way more beautiful language and has influenced the ESC a lot but English has turned into the new international language, so yeah. ;)

I vote for no french at all. Why do they say things in french BTW. Is french more superiour language then bulgarian, or estonian, or russian or any other european language. I don`t get why we have it in 2 languages. Can`t the french people use translators like the "ordinary" viewers?
And I`m not hating the language, but I don`t get why should the script to be in 2 languages. It takes time and it`s pointless IMO.

I think you're getting carried away a little bit. The contest used to be in french back in the day. This is tradition more than anything

Yes, exactly. It's a nice tradition, with its roots from the beginning of the contest. That's what it is. I doubt that the french language would have a big part of the contest, if it would have been created today.

I'm a bit split about it, when it comes to my own opinion. I would like to carry on the tradition, but at the same time it's not really necessary today. The general public today are very good at speaking and understanding english. And we have the commentators to help us as well.

Well, that's another question. And frankly I don't know why. I guess they felt that there were a majority of french speaking people watching the contest. They have spoken german on some occasions though, if I remember correctly. If nothing else, they have opened the contest with "Meine damen und herren" sometimes.

I say 75/25 English/French. It'd be nice to have it equal for both languages but I think it'd look too messy if you had the song details and voting numbers written in both English and French. So just keep it like it is now - English writing and English & French speaking :).

I'd go for English only, but not because I think Frensh is ugly or something. It's simply because that is how the "language trend" looks like today: English is the dominated language that most of the people in the world understands (perhaps among with Spanish and Mandarin?).

For practical resons: French is not needed at all. If you want a 2nd language then perhaps allow using the local one.

I think French must be kept in the Contest. I miss the old days when every spokeperson announced their votes in the same language.

It's a distinguished language, so it should be kept, because it's part of the history of the contest.

I think the show should be primarily in English, with German and Russian used as secondary languages as most of Europe speak at least one of these languages.
