Azerbaijan came close this year! I don't see how Russia couldn't if they draw was perfect they could end up with a very small support group in the semi's and with a bad song they might just fail.

Azerbaijan need a flop to remember that they can have as many top 10 entries as they like but none of their songs are classics.

I think they purposely flopped themselves in 2014 to help get rid of the vote buying allegations. But they didn't think they would flop as bad as they did - because DR helped them along with it by giving them a horrible place in the running order.

They should have been disqualified, if the voting allegations were found to be true. It's annoying the EBU did nothing.

Have we had an amputated singer on stage? Someone like Viktoria Modesta? (British amputee pop singer)

EBU nowadays seeks for more participant, since total number is under 40 for three years in a row. So they are sort of unable to do something. If they would, Georgia could've banned for at least one year.

The country that reaches the 6th position in this year's contest having a good position the following year maybe? (This year is already out because Ukraine is not in the contest, I mean this year's 6th)

The last one that made it was Spain in 2001, being 7th in 2002. Since then, the best position after being 6th is Bosnia, being 18th in 2012

PD: Belarus qualifying in a non-Scandinavian country

Okay, fine.

A good burlesque entry?

I think they purposely flopped themselves in 2014 to help get rid of the vote buying allegations. But they didn't think they would flop as bad as they did - because DR helped them along with it by giving them a horrible place in the running order.

I would love to somehow find out that, in order to dispel the allegations, Azerbaijan paid people not to vote for them or something. It paints a beautiful image in my mind.

Also: what about a surprise winner? I'd be interested to see a song considered to have no chance giving a spectacular performance on the night and winning at long odds. To an extent this applies to Austria and the Netherlands from last year, who ended first and second after having had pretty long odds, but in their cases the odds went down to under 10:1 after the SF performances.

Here are all the countries which have still never won the ESC, with their debut year in brackets:

Portugal (1964)
Malta (1971)
Morocco (1980)
Cyprus (1981)
Iceland (1986)
Slovenia (1993)
Bosnia & Herzegovina (1993)
Croatia (1993)
Romania (1994)
Slovakia (1994)
Lithuania (1994)
Hungary (1994)
Poland (1994)
F.Y.R. Macedonia (1998)
Belarus (2004)
Andorra (2004)
Albania (2004)
Moldova (2005)
Bulgaria (2005)
Armenia (2006)
Georgia (2007)
Montenegro (2007)
Czech Republic (2007)
San Marino (2008)

I've crossed out the countries that are not taking part in ESC 2015. So out of the 24 countries listed above that have yet to win the ESC, there are 18 possible ESC 2015 winners.

Bear in mind though, it's now 21 years since 7 new countries (Estonia, Romania, Slovakia, Lithuania, Hungary, Russia, Poland) had their debut entries in ESC 1994. Two of those have since won:
2001 Estonia - 7 years (1 x 7) after 1994
2008 Russia - 14 years (2 x 7) after 1994

Under that logic, now that it's 2015, i.e. 21 years (3 x 7) one of the remaining five counties (Romania, Slovakia, Lithuania, Hungary, Poland) from the 1994 debuants is due to win this year. Slovakia isn't taking part this year, so that leaves Romania, Lithuania, Hungary, Poland as likely winners under this logic.

Such a win would be very welcome, but I have to say that two singular events don't make a logic. So I wouldn't put those four countries onto a podium and call one of them the next winner, unless some dark force at EBU wants it to happen.
