A long time idea that i have had is having something similiar to nsc for movies/tv shows. Of course this is not really viable and therefore i present you the NSC movie (and tv show?) club.

The idea is simple, yet modern. Remember the old days when book clubs were popular? I don't either, but that doesn't stop me from thinking that they are a good idea... only if reading wouldn't take so much time. However movies and tv shows are perfect for it, not too long, but enough to speculate and discuss about. They are also easily accessible online and we all watch something anyway, why not share it with others?

The basic idea is to pick a movie and have everyone watch it in a certain time (2 weeks?). During that time we can also discuss and rate them. I am not sure how the movie selection should work, but i expect most people to watch different movie types anyway and if someone doesn't like the sound of some movie title, he/she can simply pass on it.

Another idea (I think) nati had on msn was that if we decide to also do tv shows, we could watch the pilot episode of several shows and later rate them. The winning show then gets the nsc movie club for the show to follow and people who want to can continue watching and discussing it.

Another possibility is live watching. I know that conor and someone have done it. That could be fun and engaging way to share the enjoyment (or well dissapointment).

So any joiners?

Don't know about that... It sounds fun and all but I'm not as keen on films and these sorta stuff as I am on music but I guess I could give it a try. ;)

I love this idea. Sounds great! :D I think we should start with movies. If successful we should move on to TV shows and finally live watching. That's just my opinion.

Re: The NSC movie club

Some more information.

It was agreed that the movie club will have 2 films at a time. It simply works better that way. 1) You have an option to choose which of the 2 sounds more interesting to you and therefore have potentially more fun. 2) It might happen that you have seen some of the movies and in these cases you have something other to watch. 3) And finally it solves the activity issue. We know from nsc that there are people who want everything to go faster than others and now these people can choose to watch 2 movies while the busier ones can stick to 1.

It was decided that 1 of the movies will be a famous blockbuster and the other one an "alternative" movie. The blockbusters will generally be currently in cinemas and you have most likely heard about them. They are mainly comedies, adventures, animated movies or based on famous books. The "alternative" movies can be anything from an independent films, science fiction, non hollywood or old movies. Why not even a documentary? These 2 aren't strict categories and they include a lot of things not listed above. We will also make sure that the 2 movies selected at a time aren't very similiar, for example we don't have a blockbuster action movie and an alternative action movie.

The selection process of the movies isn't clear yet, it depends largely on how much intrest this idea has. If we have only a few people, we can just take turns, but if there is a lot of, it wouldn't work out well. To get this going, I will ask people on msn for suggestions and put up a poll between a few movies to have as our first ones. This is a temporary solution and will be very likely changed by the time we pick new movies again.

We will have live watchings, but it is not a must. Rather think of it as live listenings in nsc. They are fun and you may take part, but in no way they are necessary.

Lastly a little about the tv shows. Because summer just started and most of the shows are on hiatus, it is not a good idea to start watching them now. However in September, when the new tv season starts with a lot of new tv series, we should give it a chance.

Re: The NSC movie club

So the time to choose the 1st movies. And we'll start with choosing the alternative one. We have 4 great options:

1) Splice
Elsa and Clive, two young rebellious scientists, defy legal and ethical boundaries and forge ahead with a dangerous experiment: splicing together human and animal DNA to create a new organism.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1017460/
[youtube:1prvjbdm]t6o_Vl2f07Q[/youtube:1prvjbdm]
It's a science fiction/horror movie currently running in the cinemas. It opened last week on a respectable 8th position in the USA.

2) The Hurt Locker
Iraq. Forced to play a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse in the chaos of war, an elite Army bomb squad unit must come together in a city where everyone is a potential enemy and every object could be a deadly bomb.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0887912/
[youtube:1prvjbdm]2GxSDZc8etg[/youtube:1prvjbdm]
The movie which won 6 oscars, yet managed to be the worst grossing movie to win the best picture award (the best movie).

3) Black Sheep
An experiment in genetic engineering turns harmless sheep into blood-thirsty killers that terrorize a sprawling New Zealand farm.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0779982/
[youtube:1prvjbdm]7bkG3QEEnDM[/youtube:1prvjbdm]
A cult horror comedy movie which has won several New Zealandic awards in 2006.

4) The Room
"The Room" is an American black comedy about love, passion, betrayal and lies
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0368226/
[youtube:1prvjbdm]yCj8sPCWfUw[/youtube:1prvjbdm]
The room is a fairly underground movie from 2003.

The movie selection for the blockbusters starts after the poll ends in 2 days.

The idea is interesting, though with my i-net currently, I'd hardly have any chances to attend that

Re: The NSC movie club

So alternative movie poll results:
6 Black Sheep
4 The Room
2 Splice
1 The Hurt Locker

That means Black Sheep won and will be watched. Opening the mainstream movie poll shortly

Re: The NSC movie club

Actually suggestions what to include to the mainstream poll are very welcomed. I'm currently considering prince of persia, ironman 2, get him to the greek, perhaps some anime (shrek or how to tame your dragon?), perhaps a drama? Any sort of input is helpful :)

Re: The NSC movie club

I really love American comedies from the 80s, 90s, in which Danny DeVito or Bette Midler start. For instance "Ruthless People" from 1986. ;) Don't know films of what age are prefered.

Anyway is anyone up for live watching? As i think that if anyone wants to do it, it could be wise to appoint a date for it (to get to download the movie before).

Sure, but only problem I see is downloading decent version of ''Prince of Persia''. That movie just got to cinemas recently. There are cam-cord versions, but their quality is questionable. :?

Anytime fits me as I'm done with school. Perhaps not mornings actually.
