2nd place takes 2 points,
and 3rd place takes 1 point.

So the 10 most successful countries in history of eurovision are:

I think a fair way would be to also divide it to how many times a country has entered the contest, to get an average number instead, because it's obvious that countries that have been longer in the contest would look "more successful" according to this reasoning... but are they really? I think success must be counted taken into consideration how many times you've entered.

Yeah, I agree. For example Azerbaijan has joined in 2008 to family and they always took top 10, just once lost top 5, took top 3 twice as well.

The average tables are fairer as they take into consideration that Azerbaijan have only been in the ESC the last few years, yet done well (including one win) in that time, yet the UK has been in since 1957 (and has since only missed 1958). On the two average tables, Azerbaijan tops the pecking order.
