Many of you will know that The Diggiloo Thrush, the site which has provided countless ESC fans with a huge lyrics database of every single Eurovision entry so far (even with versions in different languages, which was quite common in the 20th century), complete with translations, is closing down soon. :(

At least the site's owners promise that the Database will be passed on (although I'm not sure if it'll be updated anymore), so the loss isn't that big.

Does anyone know any other good ESC lyric sites? What are your comments on the Diggiloo Thrush's shutdown? Post here.

I'm shocked to read The Diggiloo Thrush site is closing soon, due to "lack of time".

Who started that site though? Was it started by one or more hobbyists who were students / unemployed a long time ago, and now have worked their way up the career ladder at work into senior, highly demanding jobs, and who also have found partners and started families? In other words, people who due to change of lifestyle over the years no longer have as much time to maintain a website like The Diggiloo Thrush?

Wouldn't it be better if the official EBU Eurovision website had trivia, stats, song lyrics etc? Then the EBU could actually employ and pay a team of researchers and webmasters to maintain a site. It's a similar story for other enthusiast interest sites out there, e.g. a ride counting site Ride Count, which closed for a period and came back to life would, I think, be better managed professionally by an amusement park organisation like IAAPA - pay a team of researchers to get the lastest amusement park ride details and update the site.

That's the trouble with hobbyists starting any enthusiast interest site like The Diggiloo Thrush, it's fine while they've got time on their hands to maintain it, but as it gets bigger and bigger, and their personal circumstances change, sooner or later they find it's impossible to maintain the site anymore and need to close it. It's sad whenever that happens.

This is terrible, although I could kind of see it coming. I mean they didn't upload stage pictures from 2013 and none of the 2014 lyrics have been uploaded yet. I'll miss it so much though, it's a low-quality website in terms of web-design, so it was always easy to load lyrics from Diggiloo Thrush on my phone. Also it was great for looking up who was who on stage and all the different versions of each song, something that's not available on the official Eurovision site.

The only other site I used was 4lyrics.eu, but that hasn't uploaded anything at all from 2014, not even anything from any of the NFs. I'm worried they're going down the same road as Diggiloo.

The database that they're keeping, does that mean that they're keeping everything, just not putting up new stuff?

That's how I've interpreted it. Or, as the site says:

We're currently investigating ways to pass on our database, so it'll remain available to the community.

The creator of the website is a friend of mine. Very sad to hear that, I'll check on him to see what's going on.

Oh gosh, now that's cool. Maybe you know even some other creators of ESC sites? Probably that-other-forum-which-shall-not-be-named was created by your evil twin

Haha, well you meet most of the people at Eurovision. I do not know the folks at escforum.net, I don't believe they are actually represented at Eurovision but I'm sure they're great people.

You can say their name btw :) We had to blank out their name a few years ago cause there was some recruiting going on but that's no longer an issue.

Very sad indeed xcry1

It was the best source for ESC lyrics ever, they had the different versions and all...

Any kind soul with time on their hand willing to continue their job?

Both my Eurovision sites (my 1987 info site and Takasa fan site) have links to Diggiloo, it was a site I frequently visited and it will be missed
