The audio channel on the DVD isn't 5.1 Dolby Digital!!!!!!!!!

Yesterday, my DVD copy of this years Eurovision Song Contest arrived. On the back of the DVD, it displayed the audio channel as 5.1 Dolby Digital, but my AMP on my Home Theatre System displayed the center channel as absent. I thought my Home Theater System was acting up, but when I displayed the information on my DVD player, it displayed that the audio channel on the disc is 4.1 Dolby Digital. Isn't that false advertising? I mean I have 2008-2013 on DVD and the audio channel is 5.1 Dolby Digital. I know it sounds a bit too technical, but here's an example...

If a show was recorded in two channels, then the audio channel will be 2.0. The Eurovision Song Contest was recorded in five channels, so the audio channel would have been 5.1. The back of the DVD advertises that the show is 5.1 Dolby Digital, but it actually is 4.1 Dolby Digital. On my Home Theatre System, the left and right front speakers and the left and right back speakers are present, but the centre speaker is absent. Without the fifth audio channel, then the DVD isn't producing the right sound.

I think it would be appropriate to contact those in charge of the home media release...

I know nothing about that stuff but if you are sure nothing is broken you should call them or something and tell them your problem, and be polite, because you will be surprised with how far you get with just being polite.

This has been for years that the quality of the DVD is pure ****. The first and the last time I bought it was in 2010 and I'll never buy it again. The image is pixellized and the sound is just awful. The BBC rips on the internet are way better.

I genuinely understand where you're coming from, Quent91. I've noticed that the picture quality on the recent DVD releases have been absolutely shocking. I just don't understand why they won't release the show on Blu-ray or on iTunes!

Back to the problem...

I know people might not understand my frustration, but they have to understand that without that fifth audio channel... the DVD won't be producing the right sound.

They did release 2011 Contest on Blu-Ray, I don´t know why they didn´t continue with it

Maybe the Blu-ray tanked with the sales? :(

Perhaps, but it still seemed to be lagging a bit behind DVD in popularity in 2011. It's been a few years now, and the format's a fair bit more popular - you'd think they'd try again...

In my opinion, they're genuinely missing out on a great opportunity...
