I'm not sure I understand exactly how Steam works. Is it only for games you can buy online through Steam? Or can you also "sync" physical games you own? I realize the convenience of only downloadable games, but I'm far too old school and want something physical to put on the shelf.

You can add your non-steam games in the library as well The advantage of using Steam in your case is that it adds an overlay (shift+tab opens it) in-game which is pretty useful (it shows you the hour and it has an incorporated browser). Another advantage I can think of is that it shows you how many hours you played.

I joined Steam mostly because of Crusader Kings 2 / Europa Universalis IV, but later I got stuck in the Elder Scrolls game series
