Directly after ESC ended this year, I started to wonder how the results would have looked like if the old 50/50 system used between 2009-2012 had been in action. I decided to find out and these are the results I got:

Semi-Final 1

:nl: 146 p
:se: 136 p
:hu: 127 p
:am: 123 p
:ua: 117 p
:az: 61 p
:ru: 59 p
:is: 58 p
:me: 52 p
:pt: 50 p

:sm: 37 p
:lv: 37 p
:be: 32 p
:ee: 29 p
:al: 27 p
:md: 11 p
9/10 countries would still have qualified for the final, the only thing that would have changed was :pt: in the final instead of :sm:

Semi-Final 2

:at: 173 p
:ro: 121 p
:fi: 89 p
:pl: 88 p
:by: 86 p
:ch: 86 p
:gr: 75 p
 74 p
:mt: 62 p
:sl: 48 p

:mk: 40 p
:lt: 38 p
:ie: 29 p
:il: 19 p
:ge: 16 p

No changes at all, same 10 countries would have qualified.

But, how would the result in the grand final have looked liked. Here is the answer:

Grand Final

:at: 313 p
:nl: 229 p
:se: 210 p
:am: 185 p
:hu: 126 p
:pl: 109 p
:ru: 102 p
:ua: 97 p
:ro: 91 p
:ch: 65 p
:fi: 64 p
:dk: 61 p
 60 p
:by: 52 p
:mt: 49 p
:is: 48 p
:az: 48 p
:es: 43 p
:de: 42 p
:me: 40 p
:uk: 33 p
:gr: 31 p
:it: 29 p
:sl: 10 p
:sm: 6 p
:fr: 3 p
It´s very obvious that the country that was the biggest loser with the new ranking system was :pl: who under the older system would have finished 6th instead of 14th. The opposite for :es: who would have ended 18th instead of 9th.

What do you think of these results? Should EBU bring back the old system again or continue with the current rules? Discuss

I can say that I prefer the old system too, no matter what opinion you have of :pl: this year, if you win the televoting in a country, you are worthy of getting points from that country, which as we have seen this year can be totally neutralised by the jury votes so the country don´t get any points at all.

And by the looks on some countries jury-votes (you all know which countries i´m talking about), you get the feeling that they was voting tactic.

Interesting. I got different results (although broadly similar) when I did the same thing for the final shortly after ESC.

Did you combine each set of five jurors' results using 1-12 points, or did you just use the combined ranking? That seems the most obvious place our methodology could differ.

Mlyn: I know that you already had a thread about the numbers but this one is meant to be used discussing if we should keep the current system or switch back to the other one so calm down. :p

I have not copied your results, if you want proof, then you can have a look at those Excel files I have done about it.

Yeah, you did it again after I explained to you how I did it, because your first numbers - as you can see in my quote - are very different!

Now you only have differences of some 1 points, maybe because of miscalculations or breaking ties differently than I did... :D
