Here I am in Cydoni Gibberia, happy to be reporting on the first set of rehearsals for NSC 67. Im here in the press centre, up at 6am waiting for Scorpionia's entrants to come on stage. The Vardychinov Arena looks fantastic, and the organisation has been world class.

01. Scorpionia - Enrique Iglesias feat. Ludacris - Tonight (I'm Lovin' You)
Spanish singer Enrique Iglesias is joined by rapper Ludacris for our opening song of the night. The song starts out pretty strongly with Enrique dressed in all black alone on stage, a pretty simple start to the song up until the first chorus with Enrique sounding vocally quite strong. When the chorus begins he's joined on stage by a multitude of women dressed in rather appealing outfits, and there's some pseudo flirting between them. Soon after the chorus, Ludacris enters the stage, dressed in a suit, and he too is surrounded by a number of models - as Enrique retreats to the back of the stage. Overall, the two display a freat degree of chemistry on stage, showing clearly the fact both are seasoned performers. A lively start to the semi!

02. 10 Regions of Mobius - My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic - Winter Wrap Up
A major contrast to the first entry. As I sit here watching the rehearsals, I couldn't imagine a greater difference between the first two songs, in fact, the only way there could be a greater contreast is if a metal song by random dudes singing about satan comes next. You can't help but have a smile on your face as you see this song being performed, the stage backdrop is full of rainbows and just general bright colours and ponies. The performers themselves are holograms of the ponies, this comes across really well on stage, and I think it's safe to say we havent seen anything like this in NSC before.

03. Bokia - Sertab Erener - Istanbul
Aww I didn't get the satanic metal I wanted! Instead we have Turkish singer Sertab singing her ethnic influenced number! Sertab herself is dressed in a sexy red dress [/room reference]. She is joined on stage by 5 backing dancers, dressed on orange, and who also provide some of the backing vocals (she is also assisted by a number of women to the side of the stage, but I forgot to count how many (sue me! =P). Sertab shows that she clearly knows how to move, and it's a strong first rehearsal for her.

04.Xhanostania - Nora Istrefi - Dy Shoke
And now we have a debutant! Welcome to NSC Xhanostania who are represented by Albanian Nora Istrefi. For the second song in a row we have a woman who shows her ability to both sing and dance at the same time. She is dressed in blue, with a unique hairstyle similar to the one in the video. She's joined by 3 female and 2 male backing dancers, with the females also providing backing vocals. She makes good use of the instrumental break to show off her dance moves. The song builds well and her vocals are solid. Good debut performance!

05. Prasia - Calvin Harris - Acceptable In The 80's
Scottish electro artist up next for Prasia. Calvin comes in stage in a rather hipster looking outfit - a bright hoodie, and his now trademark silver glasses. He enters the stage and proceeds to a synthesiser, where he slaps out some electro beats. For most of the song he stands at the front of the stage at a microphone, his performing experience evident as he gets the crowd going. Everything about this performance is professional - from the main performer to the backing band. The backdrop is effective, with bright colours being the dominating feature, along with several 80s references, including movie posters and music montages.

06. Quien DQ - Towa Tei feat Kylie Minogue - GBI
Quien DQ up next represented by Kylie Minogue and Towa Tei. The song gets off to an interesting start, with Kylie dressed in a rather eccentric green outfit. Towa Tei stands at a set of dj decks in the background, and similar to Calvin Harris before slaps out some electro beats. This performance is pretty intense, as Kylie stares into the camera quite well leaving a striking impression. Kylie is joined on stage by 3 backing dancers, also dressed rather eccentricly. The backdrop is generally black, with mixes of purple coming in. There is a high emphasis on words in the background, with the words German Bold Italic appearing in tyle with when she says the words. This comes across very, very strong on screen and is sure to leave an impression on the viewer.

07. Rumia - Caprice - Enter Laoris
This is very different to the preceding 6 entries. performed by Russian group Caprice. This looks very strong on the stage, with lead singer Inna dressed fully in a purple dress - her voice sounds heavenly, and the backdrop suits the song, picturing a rather magical scene. The band play their instruments very well, with a violinist, a flutist, a drummer, a keyboardist amoungst others present on stage. The most striking thing is the power of the lead vocalists voice without any backing help. Certainly leaves a good impression, and has a good draw.

08. New Acadia - Waxdolls - Spoiled Rich Bitches
A rather humourous performance by Belgian band Waxdolls. They continue on with the theme from the video, with the two lead singers dressed in rather ridiculous looking costumes, wearing bizarre looking black vests. They continue with some of the moves from the video, leading what appears to be an aerobics class making it one of the most bizarre NSC performances ever. The lighting is a great asset to this song, with a rather unique atmosphere being created via the flashing lights, timed perfectly to the beats of the song. This is pretty fun =P

09. Waloria - Lissie - When I'm Alone
American folk rock singer Elisabeth Maurus now! Wow, her vocal talents rival those of Inna from Caprice. It's a completely different song, but boy this girl can sing. She's dressed rather simply in black, and carries her brown guitar on stage. She is joined on stage by her band, and this is a simple performance - but it feels completely genuine. The backdrop is mostly black and blue, but it doesnt change that much. She sings perfectly throughout the song, and this song doesn't need any over the top choreography to sell it. Solid, strong performance.

10. Serenate + Clair - Lady Gaga - Judas
Lady Gaga returns to the NSC stage once again, and delivers a characteristically eccentric performance. She's dressed in one of her unique dresses, completely made out of silver, and is donning a white wig. She looks magnificent, and sings as well as she did for her other performances in NSC. This is Gaga doing what she does best - being Lady Gaga.

11. Comino - Katie Melua - A Happy Place
Another returning artist now, and another experienced performer. In her video the performance is quite eccentric, but on stage it has a more simple presentation. She is joined on stage by her band, and lets her voice do the talking for this song - and that's all she needs to do. She's dressed in a simple outfit, but rumour says she could have something different for the performance in NSC itself. Good first rehearsal from Katie.

12. Sunland - Ryan si Radu - Rush Love
We get back to a more dance orientated performance. Ryan and Radu are joined on stage by numerous sexy girls, and the background is a sort of road which continues to stretch on into the horizon, creating a road trip style atmosphere to this song. Both of the singers sing well, and look good on stage. They are dressed in black tops and jeans, and one of them has a guitar for the first half of the performance, which he loses towards the end.

13. Balearica Island - Ewan Dobsin - Time 2
This is incredible, it's one of the more unique NSC performances that's for sure. There is n doubt that Ewan can perform, and he utilises every single iota of his guitar skill on stage. He rarely has to make eye contact with the camera, and overall this looks good. It's similar in presentation to one of TaA's past entries Rodrigo y Gabriela - Tamacun - in that it is just a guitarist live on stage, showing every little bit of his musical talent. This sounds fantastic, and really transfers well to the screen.

14. Dalisska - Monarchy - I Won't Let Go
Monarchy up next for Dalisska. The two lead singers are dressed in suits, with their faces partly masked. Both are working at synths for the majority of the song, with similarly dressed people on instruments in the background. The background is black and white, and makes for a hypnotising effect. They are joined on stage by a female singer toward sthe end of the song, who is dressed fully in white. This looks awesome on stage and is exactly how a dance style song like this should be presented to get maximum attention.

15. Zechonia - Clare Maguire - Happiest Pretenders
Clare gives a very honest performance. She is dressed in a fur coat, and is joined by numerous violinists on stage alongside her band. She makes a lot of bizarre hand movements throughout the performance, but this is forgiven as she sings so well live. She certainly is an intense performer, and shows a great deal of passion on stage. She doesn't really have much of a backdrop, and to be honest a giant lcd backdrop would take away from this.

16. Bacchus - Bob Sinclair - Love Generation
Bob is on stage with a singer who sings the vocal portion of this song. Bob himself performs a role similar to David Guetta, providing the musical portion of this song. He seems to be genuinely enjoying himself on stage, and he interacts well with the singer, who is vocally flawless. He's joined on stage by a number of girls dressed in yellow, while the backdrop is a myriad of flashing lights of multiple colours. Good performance.

17. Kingdom of Eras - Lido Lido - Different
Lido Lido is the pen name of Norwegian singer Peder Losnegard, and he is representing Kingdom of Eras this edition. He is dressed in a black jacket and purple top, and is joined on stage by his DJ. No real backdrop to this, but he sings well, and the rap bits are pretty much perfect. He carries the cordless mic well around stage, and gives a typically rap style performace. His performance is aided by female backing dancers who come to the fore halfway through the song (this appears to be a recurring theme today in these rehearsals!)

18. Angelic - The Creepshow - The Garden
The Creepshow are Angelic's representatives - a four piece rockabilly band from Toronto. Their song "The Garden" is a number I can't help but tap my feet to along with the rhythm of the song. The lead singer is dressed in a black and white dress, and the song is performed to a red backdrop. They really fit the sterotype of a rockabilly band - with the whole band having a magnificently retro look to them. I have nothing but admiration too for the double bassist's skills - he is a fantastic performer.

19. Virgohronie - Lee Jung Hyun - Suspicious Man
Kpop singer Lee Jung Hyun (이정현) from Daegu is Virgohronie's representative this edition. She looks remarkably pretty dressed all in white and moves about the stage well, dancing and singing in a good way. The performance is full of energy, and the backing dancers are very, very, very, very, very, very, very coordinated. Looks good overall, a nice Kpop song, and it does it's job well.

20. Fervorosia - Anniela - My Confession
Swedish pop singer Anniela is up next for Fervorosia! This former NSC participant recently came to the fore for her performance in Melodifestivalen, and like her Melodifestivalen and NSC participations prior to this, she gives a very energetic performance. She is dressed in a rather appealing black dress and moves well to the song. The backdrop is mostly blue, with her backing dancers moving well in suit type attire. She sings well and looks good - what more could you want?

21. Llama Republic - Fefe Dobson - Stuttering
Another debut entry here tonight! Welcome to NSC Llama Republic! Llama Republic are represented by Canadian Model/Singer Fefe Dobson. She is joined on stage by her band, and gives a pretty good live performance, interacting very well with all the cameras - this is a very slick performance, and you can tell the Llama Republic delegation have put a lot of effort into their first appearance on the NSC stage. She is dressed all in black and appears to be having a pretty good time on stage. The backdrop is dominated by lights which suit the mood of the song well, whilst the vocals are spot on - as Fefe is helped by two other girls who are on stage alongside her. Strong first rehearsal.

22. Yaponesia - Goulasch Exotica - Betyarvizit
The last event I covered was the Yaponesian NF, and this was the act which struck me the most (I in fact voted for it multiple times). Goulasch Exotica are a Hungarian band and they deliver a cool melange of electro and folk which sounds absolutely fantastic. The band is a musical project of 3 Hungarian DJ's and a group of traditional Hungarian musicians. This works fantastically well on stage - and the performance hasnt changed much from the one which won them the Yaponesian nf. The DJ's are to the side on their decks and the singer livens up the stage with her energetic performance. There are a number of musicans about the stage, each donning a number of Hungarian instruments.

23. Calypso - Nathalie - Vivo Sospesa
I will be a bit biased here, as Nathalie is one of my favourite recent NSC artists, and I am overjoyed to see her back on the NSC stage. This time she's representing Calypso, and the Italian singer-songwriter gives a stereotypically passionate performance. The stage is covered in a sea of red, as Nathalie begins the song on a piano. She is joined on stage by a group of violinists, which give a sort of orchestral feel to the song. As the song builds Nathalie leaves the piano and works her way to the front of the stage for the climax of the song, and boy does she hit every note well. Great performance - can she bring the NSC title back to Calypso?

24. Perryfornia - Helena Paparizou - Baby It's Over
Greek Eurovision winner Helena is back in NSC again. This time she's representing relative newcomers to the NSC family Perryfornia. She gives a performance which is characteristically Helena, as she's dressed all in black similar to the video. For the start of the song she is moving quite slowly, as the song builds up to the chorus. As the chorus hits she bursts into energy alongside her backing dancers, as they pull off a very well choreographed routine which continues for the rest of the song. One of the backing dancers is Perryfornian Olympic gymnast Jolanda Smith, who shows off some of her stunning moves.

25. Vedatistan - David Bustamante - Abrázame Muy Fuerte
Former Operaction Triunfo participant David Bustamente is representing Vedatistan this edition. Bustamente is dressed in a white top and black trousers, and is surrounded by his band, who he inteacts with well. During insturmental breaks David shows off his dance skills well, as he moves around the stage. One noteworthy thing about David is how well he interacts with the audience in the arena - you can almost feel his energy passing down into the crowd. If this transfers to the screens this could be doing very well.

26. Canedonia - Rebecca Black - Friday
This is a very reassuring performance, Today is Friday - and Rebecca managed to remind me what day of the week it is. I would've been in a serious dilemma if she didn't inform me. She also informed me tomorrow is Saturday, which is pretty important, as I've a very important thing to do tomorrow, and other wise I would've forgotten. The start of the song shows rebecca getting out of bed and going about her daily routine, and she gets her cereal. She then proceeds to get into a car with her "franz" - who I assumed to be the band Franz Ferdinand, or the archduke of the same name, but instead it was a group of teenagers. I can only assume the driver was called Franz or something like that. Franz gives a good performance, he drives the car around the stage very well. My favourite part of the performance is when the days of the week appear on the screen. It is pure genius. This is an amazing way to close the show, and is an inspirational performance by Rebecca.

Semi 2

01 - Halito - Anberlin - Feel Good Drag
Rock band Anberlin open this semi, and it's been a long time since these first appeared in a Halito NF - their appearance in NSC is long overdue. The band are dressed all in black and give a stereotypical rock band style performance. They look polished on stage, and do a good job with this song. The backdrop is mostly made up of lighting - they don't utilise the LCD screens, and give a rather standard rock style performance - no complaints about this - it's the perfect semi opener.

02. Flora - MODEL - Buzdan Şato
Turkish rock band now on stage for Flora - two rock songs in a row open up this semi, which is pretty remarkable as there was a clear lack of rock songs in the first semi. This is a very different performance to what Anberlin gave, as Model have elected to use the LCD screens, with a red and black background complementing the song well. The band make good use of the stage and move about well, and the female vocalist is spot on throughout the song.

03. Xanadu - Azuro feat. Elly - Ti Amo
Dance act Azuro feat Elly are on stage now for Xanadu. Elly looks good on stage, and is dressed in all white. The stage is flanked by two dj's who don't take up much camera time. Elly is joined by four male backing dancers on stage who move well throughout the song, and perform well alongside Elly. Good first rehearsal.

04. Mooseland - Carrie Mac - Till I See You Again
British singer songwriter on stage for Mooseland now. Blue is the overriding colour for this performance, with the entire backdrop being a rather visually pleasing shade of blue. Carrie herself is looking very pretty in her white dress, and she is joined on stage by a guitarist, drummer and several violinists. She keeps to the middle of the stage, and there is no over the top theatrics to this song. Carrie shows good confidence on stage. Camera angles were slightly off, but this should be improved soon enough.

05. VPS - Krypteria - Na Ga Ja
Korean fronted German power metal now from Viola Per Sempre. This looks very good on stage, and Krypteria show they haven't lost their touch, despite the fact it's been a long time since they were in NSC. A sort of warehouse effect similar to the video is created using the LCD screens, and the band are spread about the stage. At the start of ths song the backing vocalists are hidden to the side of the stage, however, towards the end approximately 100 choir members descend on the stage. This looks perfect - really well presented.

06. Pigeon Island - Tatiana Okupnik - Spider Web
Polish popstar Tatiana Okupnik on stage now for Pigeon Island singing her song spider web. The back of the stage has a mix of colours, and she makes good use of the wind machine, with it being on throughout the song. She is vocally spot on and performs the song well. She is dressed in normal clothes for now, as apparently her designer dress she plans on wearing for the semi final proper hasn't arrived yet. One can only hope she sorts that out soon.

07. Zombira - 30 Seconds To Mars - This Is War
Thirty Seconds to Mars representing Zombira now, one of their old participants returning for another bite of the cherry. I've always wondered how these got their name, and surely 30 seconds have past since they originally named the band, meaning they are now actually on Mars, meaning the name of the band should really be, "We have arrived on Mars" or "We are returning to earth after our successful Mars mission". Maybe they're stuck in time or something.
Anyway, good performance from an experienced NSC artist, displaying all the attributes you need to succeed on a NSC stage - good vocals, a good song, an energetic performance and good camera interaction. Looks good!

08. Lyapunovia - Laura Pausini e Miguel Bosé - Te Amare
This performance doesn't divert much from the NF performance that's seen in the preview video. Both singers remain stationary on seats for the duration of the song, and sing the song with great passion, looking deep into each others eyes at several moments. The interaction looks genuine, and they sell the song well.

09. Blondania - Vanbot - Make Me Break Me
Electro artist Ester Ideskog takes to the stage now for Blondania, dressed all in blue, and joined on stage by her producer on the synth, alongside a band. She doesn't rely on backing dancers for this song and moves about the stage well. The predominant colours in the lighting scheme are blue and yellow - a bright colour scheme suiting a rather bright sounding song. For the general atmosphere think of Le Kid's melodifestivalen performance.

10. Kostanovia - Emily Osment - Lovesick
And the prize for best use of camera effects tonight goes to Kostanovia, who somehow manage to createa similar atmosphere to their preview video. Numerous differnt tones are used on the camera, and the stage is pretty dark throughout, as lead singer Emily is joined on stage by a group of backing dancers who are camoflaged except for their blue patterns across their suits. This looks bizarre in the arena, but it's beyond awesome on the screens - and the televoters will only see what's on screen - this wins the creativity award for best performance so far.

11. Cleoreantia - Christina Perri - Arms
Memorable VPS NSC winner on stage now, as Christina Perri returns in search of more glory, this time donning the colours of Cleoreantia. She once again uses her great voice to good effect, as she's joined by her band - the song builds really well, and she is a genuinely sweet girl. She is dressed in casual clothes, as she is just concentrating on getting vocals and camera angles right for this performance - and this really pays off, as after the second run it looks slick and well rehearsed. No gimmicks - similar to her prior NSC performance - this should be remembered by many.

12. Roseland - Rosanna Munter - Waterfall
Swedish songstress Rosanna Munter on stage now for Roseland. The stage is red, and the camera movements are rather slow, but this suits the song. There are clouds running around the background as the song progresses, as a water effect comes on screen (Oh! I get it! Waterfall >_<) . Rosanna is dressed all in white and is joined on stage by a pianist. Vocally spot on. Should be appreciated by televoters.

13. Noizeland - Louise Attaque - J't'emmène au vent
French band Louise Attaque now! This is a personal favourite of mine performed by a band who seem th be having a pretty damn good on stage, performing their folk rock styled song. A country setting is showin on the LCD screen, and the band move around the stage quite well - none of them remain stationary - even the drummer is using a portable drum. They're joined on stage by a group of girls who seem to be adding to the general fun feel of the song. Real feel good number.

14. Celinas - Britney Spears - Till The World Ends
Britney really makes the most of her backing dancers here, as they move in time in a routine that is very rehearsed. Britney is very scantily dressed and isn't afraid to show off her sex appeal. She moves along well with her mix of male and female backing dancers to a backdrop of mostly yellow lights. Solid performance.

15. Reignland - Patrick Wolf - The City
English singer-songwriter Patrick Wolf now for Reignland. He is joined on stage by a saxophone player, a drummer and a guitarist. He starts the song at a piano, and quickly moves off it to take centre stage. He is dressed in a black top and a red shirt and seems to be enjoying his time on stage. In an interview earlier he said he's delighted to be representing reignland, and this is shown to be true by his general demeanor. The backdrop is suitably a combination of city and seaside scenes.

16. Xorientia - Skunk Anansie - Secretly
British rock band Skunk Anansie on stage now. Lead singer Skin is dressed all in black and she gives a rather mellow performance to a plan lit background. Some violinists complement the band, to what is a rather laid back performance which suits the song perfectly. The song really takes off towards the end, as it builds really well. There was some confusion in the first run through as the backing vocals came in too early, but this was corrected later on.

17. Horehronieland - Lucy Schwartz - Graveyard
Lucy Schwartz now for Horehronieland. I quite enjoyed this in the nf, and the performance is even better on the big stage here in Cydoni Gibberia. Lucy looks good in a white dress, and this is performed on a white background similar to the video. Simplistic performance, but this song doesn't need much more. Good use of smoke and wind machines, and the dancing looks rather mystical. Rather optimistic sounding for a song called Graveyard.

18. Zaprya - Radio Killer - Lonely Heart
(Authors note: In the banner these look bizarrely like Musiqq) Zaprya are represented by Radiokiller, and it's a suitably dancey performance for this kind of song. The lead singer is joined on stage by 4 backing singers/dancers and they move quite well. Lighting is looking good for this song, and the tempo is matched perfectly by the dancers.

19. TaA - Vandaveer - The Nature of Our Kind
My homeland's entry now. It's a rather uplifting guitar based song performed by folk rock project Vandaveer. The two singers interact well on stage, with the male vocalist holding a guitar, while the female singer stands alongside him dressed fully in white. There's a full backing band behind them who support them There are a lot of very close range camera angles of the two singers, with split screen cameras (think Kook- Uurnik) being used. Solid first rehearsal.

20. Gozitania - Novaspace - Close Your Eyes
German eurodance now from Gozitania. The lead singer is in a white dress on stage, and this is a bit of a contrast from the guitar stylings of what came before - a purely electro number. The lead singer looks really good on stage, and the background of a sea scene looks really well. The backing dancers give an enthusiastic performance.

21. Adamsburg - Bring Me The Horizon - Blessed With A Curse
This is probably the most passionate performance of the night. There is something unbeliveably magic about this performance. It's screamo rock performed with the passion of a ballad. The singer makes some incredibly emotional stares into the camera and this redefines intense. The background is plain white like the video, with blood effects appearing as the chorus comes in. The end of the song results in the stage going dark, and a spotlight being placed on an emotionally drained singer.

22. Arjastan - Above & Beyond feat. Richard Bedford - Sun & Moon
Dance now from Arjastan, and it is performed by a solo male performer who is joined on stage by 3 people at synths. Very modern feel to this, and the singer moves pretty well around the stage. There's one female backing dancer and the singer interacts well with her, as they act out what appears to be a fight and reconcilement.

23. Kuki-Q - Caro Emerald - A Night Like This
Another returning winner! This time Caro Emerald takes to the stage for a rather quirky performance similar to the one she won with. She is dressed in bright yellow and red colours, and performs in front of a bright background. This is significantly less uptempo than "That Man" but it has all the charm of it. Great first runthrough.

24. RLD - iamamiwhoami - U-2
This video has really gotten a lot of attention, and sure enough this is recreated live on stage. The songwriters themselves are to the side of the stage providing the beats on synths, and providing whatever vocals are necessary. The middle of the stage is dominated by a man in his underwear flailing around in what appears to be a sort of padded box room while he dances around a box with a bottle on it. The background is trees and a forest scene. This is surely memorable. (It also has exactly 1000 likes on youtube)

25. Kamande - Paul Koulak - Variation N°1
(Authors note: haha epic, Fort Boyard music) The stage is dominated by an orchestra, giving a fairly simplistic orchestral performance. This looks very well, and it's lucky live music is allowed in NSC, as this would've lost all its charm if it had to be done via. playback. Comes across really well.

26.Orangualia - Sunloverz VS Rosette - Fire
And now for our final entry, from Orangualia! Rosette really knows how to sell her sex appeal on stage, and gives a good performance of this song in a black costume similar to the one from the preview video. She moves around well, and there is good use of the wind machine. There are a number of backing dancers who do their jobs superbly.

And that's it for now from the Vardychinov Arena for now. I have to now go and do something important.

Very well done Conor :D One of my concerns making the stage was that I couldn't really 'visualise' how acts could be like so this is very good timing xD

You know prequalified nations have to rehearse too...;D

Oh woah, this is awesome! XD We should have these rehearsals more often.
And I love how you pictured Mobian performance. Hologram ponies ftw! =D And yeah satanic metal band would be pretty epic in that line-up. XD

That is how I pictured Canedonia's performance. She has to have her fraaanz with her! Well, you forgot one thing. There aren't any empty seats in the arena, and Rebecca looks rather relieved with that fact.
