katekyooshi hitman reborn (aka katekyo hitman reborn aka reborn) (hitman tutor reborn) is a comedic yet serious anime that starts off a bit slow but will get you addicted after a couple of episodes.
full metal alchemist(brotherhood) which is an action shonen story which should keep you addicted for a long time
ichiban ushiro no daimaou (furthest back demon lord?) is an amazing anime which i would suggest you start watching yesterday.
working is a comedic anime set in a family restaurant with very unique characters
angel beats is a rather serious anime with several plot twists.
gintama is purely comedy and mockery.
bleach is action shonen story... i reccomend it to anyone. it's still ongoing though but if you start now it might finish by the time you reach the end.
naruto is about ninjas and has a pretty detailed background so it's rather good
one piece A pirate story. would be comedic but still at the same time have a serious story with several interesting turn outs. for all those that don't want an all out serious anime but at the same time not completely comedy.
kuroshitsuji (black butler) is a bit serious and short but ok
suzumiya haruhi no yuutsu (melanchony of haruhi suzumiya) is comedic but at the same time near the end it starts gathering up all the points for a good finale. note that the actual order you should watch this one is not the chronological order but the release order. there is also a second season (caution: there is the "Endless eight" which is 8 straight episodes that are almost identically the same.)

Avatar (The last air bender) is a rather good anime divided into 3 books (seasons) about a kid who had to save the world but disappeared over a 100 years ago.
Darker than black a bit gruesome but very very good.
K-ON! a two season ongoing anime about a light music club. has some interesting music and very comedic. i greatly recommend it.
Durarara starts off slowly about 3 people that are living in a metropolis. but features a really big twist
Hetalia is a bit historical as all the characters are countries. It has several comedic moments and the episodes are only 5 mins long.
History's strongest disciple Kenichi A martial arts anime which a couple of very interesting teachers. Always keeps an element of surprise and irony.
Death Note A mind blowing anime that will literally blow your mind. A good watch for those that can keep up with the story.
Tsubasa Chronicle A good story with very unique worlds and ideas.
XXXHolic A very good anime that revolves about coincidence and equality in life. Addictive and surprising.
Ouran High school host club A comedic shojo that although has some predictable points is a good watch for all
Lucky Star Pure Comedy. A must watch
MAR a shonen anime with some good action scenes.
Rosario + Vampire a shojo anime with comedy and pervertedness. has a good in-depth story and i would reccomend you start it.
Shaman King an action anime that although long progresses smoothly. has some predictable points but rather good.
Tales of the Abyss A short anime, part of the tales series. provides an interesting plot twist that should keep you greatly entertained.
Kaichou wa maid sama (The president is a maid) is a comedic, slightly romantic anime that would keep most people watching for a long time.
Kiba A short action story with very in-depth character development. good for most people.
Soul Eater An action, comedy anime that i would GREATLY Suggest
D-Gray Man Another action anime that i would GREATLY suggest.
Code Geass a good anime with a twisting plot that should keep most viewers entertained
Chobits A romantic anime with a surprising background for several characters.
Baka to test to shoukanjuu (Idiots, tests and summoned creatures) an awesome anime worth watching by all.
B Gata H Kei A comedic and purely perverted anime.
Seiken no blacksmith (The sacred blacksmith) A short action anime with in depth character development
