Over the last few months we have received multiple inquiries on adding another contest due to the fact that the current active ones are slowly overloading. We want to leave it up to the members to decide if and which of the contest suggestions should be added. I will post the three options and you if you want you can discuss them.

Keep in mind that in cases where members cannot agree on the outcome, the Leadership team will make the final decision. However, an outcome decided by the community is preferred. In addition, we need members to step up and let us know if they are interested in hosting and/or becoming Mods for that section.

Three suggestions were received that we believe would add a different experience from the current online contests. The names are not set in stone!

1. Random Song Contest:
A country/language is randomly assigned to each participant every edition and they'll have to find an entry that falls within that criteria.

2. Language Song Contest:
Only one song per language.

3. Secret Song Contest:
The identity of the participant/member will be revealed until after all votes have been received and counted.

Some of these ideas may not be feasible but we want at least give you the option to talk about it. As said, I'm leaving it up to the members to discuss this and the Mod team will continue to do what they're supposed to which is moderate the conversation.

We are open to new ideas as well but please PM me your suggestions for new contests first and if we feel they're appropriate or reasonable, we will post them.

Thank you!!!!

I'm split between options 1 and 3, but slightly supporting the 3rd option! Sounds very interesting! :D

EDIT: Option one is better, I doubt all the people would be correct and keep their entries secretive... xthink

I would support 2nd option because it differs from all others contests on the forum

Those 3 options look like spin-offs

Spin-offs are not full contests though. Spin-offs are fun little side games but if there is one particular one that turns out to be popular, it only makes sense to make it a full contest if the interest is there.

Ideas number 1 and 2 really stand out for me, as their main quality is the diversity of songs presented.

I like option 3 the best. It seems the most exciting and interesting one. Not knowing who sent the song you like/don't like would create a constant buzz in the course of each edition :D

Number 3 sounds the best. I'd like the idea for #2 more if it was a specific language for each edition (eg all songs in Estonian, then all songs in Swahili, then all songs in Catalan). #1 sounds potentially interesting, but may be a bit too messy.

Another idea I think would work as a contest is the All Around the World NSC spin-offs, so each edition would have a country as theme - again, similar to the language idea about a bit more broad.

instead of creating new ones, fix the current contests. that would be great. and anyways, it's not like everybody will leave the current contests when the new one is created. they'll just join the new one. aaand the ideas for new contests are ridiculous. create something legit.

Language song contest. But with one language per edition (similar to the AATW spinoffs but with languages).

- sounds like fun but one has to make time to do some research. i would probably pass on that 1 but if others like it, why not xshrug

2. Language Song Contest:
Only one song per language.

- my favorite here. other contests are overloaded with english anyway. it would be something like esc in old days, during language rule era (sort of) xbow

3. Secret Song Contest:
The identity of the participant/member will be revealed until after all votes have been received and counted.

- not sure if tis can be pulled off. also, without any brakes, it could turn into radio-hit-bonanza :?

Easier said than done. All contests have a natural limit to how many people can play it. The forum's becoming more and more popular and the contests that we already have are becoming more and more overcrowded (well ok, they've become less so since the ESC season finished, but the numbers will swell again come January/February). Creating contests is the best way to alleviate the pressure on the existing contests and gives new members the chance to play something as soon as they join. Of course the contests should be high-quality, we dont want to have a graveyard of irrelevant contests that only 6 people play like certain other eurovision forums, and all of the ideas proposed need tweaking in order to be high-quality. But there's certainly nothing wrong with the contests that we have at the moment, they just don't cope well with massive numbers.

3rd option would be good considering how many complaints I keep hearing about voting patterns in WV

Being realistic though I like all three. But I'd only have time still for NSC and occasionally FSC

I think that the Language Song Contest would make for a more interesting prospect all-round and it would force people to find songs that are maybe out with their frame of reference. But I agree that an AATW set-up where each edition focuses on a different country or language would be best, as other wise you will simply have a load of complaints each edition for people that haven't been online at the time when registration has opened as they didn't get to register their favourite language.

Random Song Contest would only be as good as its players - if people are lazy about it, they will simply send the most famous artists from each country or search for a really tenuous link to the country to allow them to send something closer to their comfort zone.

Secret Song Contest is an overall weak theme as a stand-alone contest IMO - you could combine it with another idea for example to make things more exciting, but as a stand-alone contest it interests me the least here.

Supporting number 2.

Number 1 sounds like a much more difficult version of number 2, maybe it's just too difficult.
Number 3 sounds boring, it does not bring anything new, people would still send the same songs as they do to other contests.

I'm not sure what fixing of the current contests is needed as we haven't received any complaints or concerns except for the fact it is getting too crowded. So please contact the contest mods so they can address the issues.

The implementation of a new contest is not to drive active players away but give new members a place to have fun and those who enjoy taking part in multiple contests.

If you feel these ideas are ridiculous then you can give us some "legit" suggestions. As said, those are idea received from members.
