Re: MONACO 2014

If the host country of 2014 contest will be France or Italy, Monaco will participate for sure. Also if San Marino this year will make it to the final and get a good place, then also we have many chances to see Monaco back! This is my thought!

Re: MONACO 2014

Isn't the Monegasque national broadcaster solely radio though? I was looking at the EBU Wikipedia page and it seems that there's no TV station from Monaco. Would that be a problem?

Re: MONACO 2014

Again no. Monaco has a broadcaster. It is the channel TMC. But basically, since 2005, it has become a channel available in the whole France by TNT. Even in 2005 and 2006, as I already told, it was on 2 channels in France at the same time which was very strange and funny. Our commentators grated the Monegasque commentators who were very famous hosts in France (with Bernard Montiel, well known for his very unique character !)

TMC is owned by the group TF1, our private #1 channel who is part of EBU as well but not interested in Eurovision (it will broadcast the final of The Voice on the 16th May and pray for it don't burry Eurovision on France 3 too much or it would mean our definite withdrawal...

So neither TF1 wants Eurovision nor the Monegasque government who has many other things to promote the principauty which is a place known all over the world though being extremely tiny... In 2004, it came back for 3 years with a special agreement of the channel and they planned to see after 3 years. Even in 2006 while sending someone very famous from France, Séverine Ferrer, it attracted zero attention above the participation of Monaco and Monaco had extremely poor results (compared to the golden era of the 70s). So they decided not to continue...

So in a word, Monaco will never come back to Eurovision. Sad but true...

So what you're saying is that Monaco since 2004 was basically a testing ground for TF1?

Séverine Ferrer is very famous in France? That song was so so bad, that it was good!

She was the host of a teenager TV-show where you could meet your idol ! But it was extremely popular among teens... So she was very famous. Then she decided to quit TV to launch a musical career but it ended in a complete failure, obviously. So, after that as the author of the Monegasque song looked for someone known in France to put his work into light, he contacted any possible person, and... she accepted as she said Eurovision was her child dream. She said on TV that she found "La Coco Dance" not the kind of song she liked to sing but it was now or never for Eurovision, so she took the opportunity to fulfil her dream and be on the grand stage ! :)
So what you're saying is that Monaco since 2004 was basically a testing ground for TF1?

I read that in fact the author of the 3 songs 2004-2005-2006 convinced TMC for a 3 times agreement. I guess as well that EBU managed to convice the micro-states to enter in 2004 in order to fill the semi-final draw with 3 years with a little fee maybe... As it wasn't convincing they withdrew, but really neither TMC nor Prince of Monaco cares about Eurovision, really... And based on the fact that the fee is calculated on the possible audience (very little in Monaco ) but above all on the GDP, Monaco's fee must be rather important !

Re: MONACO 2014

I wouldn't say never, maybe not in 2014 but those that are in charge right now may not be in charge in a few years from now and the new team may be big proponent of the show. People said similar things about Italy so I have no doubt that Monaco will return eventually.

He said everything.

Amen.

Plus with the semi-finals system, Monaco has nowadays almost zero chance to get through, as every other micro-state :(
