Due to popular demand and in the interests of gender equality, I thought we should have a thread for the ladies :D

I cheer for Canada, but since they pretty much have no chance to win a medal here, I'm also rooting for USA and Britain. USA has Hope Solo! :D

My support will be behind the Japanese team. Loved watching them at the World Cup.

Shame about Ifeoma Dieke being injured for GB. One of only two Scottish players on the team.

Sweden - Canada today.

The Swedish team and players in London assures they will go 100% in trying to beat Canada. The Swedish newspapers however speculate it would be much better to get a draw. It's all about what's waiting in the quarterfinal:
France - with a win
The UK - with a draw
Brazil - with a lose

Meeting the UK would be the best option says the reporters.

edit:
A poor game by the Swedish team although they managed to grab a 2-0 lead initially, it ended with a draw 2-2. Since Japan played a miserable draw 0-0 against South-Africa (or South-Africa played heroic ;)), Sweden will meet France in the quarterfinal. A replay of the FIFA World Cup bronze match in Germany 2011.

US are the only team that can stop GB from getting gold.

It is staged for a US victory, they will have an on paper super easy road to the final. Their main rivals will cancel themselves out.

Oh what a nice draw for either Canada, US or Great Britain. On the other hand, one of Japan and Brazil will not get a medal!
I am happy that Canada will play Great Britain. I think they have a shot of qualifying in the semi and it is a better them, than Brazil or USA in the 1/4-final. I am sure Great Britian is great, but England wasn't too convincing in the 1/4-finals against France on the last World Cup. Even if Canada loses, I would be happy for either GBR or USA to go all the way! :)

Don't worry, the grim facts are that Canada will crush the UK but will themselves be hammered to death by the US. The British sensational victory against Brazil yesterday was ... well, sensational - will most likely not happen twice. I think as a Swede that Brazil will hopefully beat Japan. Sweden will of course beat France and then Brazil to enter a heroic victory against the US in the final.

The best team in the tournament is Japan though. :)
And we miss Germany. :(

edit:
The real facts are FIFA ranking and tournament history. ;)

I'm not saying this out of any bias btw. If anything I hope Canada destroy the GB team, but I don't honestly care that much either way.

Ranking and tournament history have no bearing on what is happening right now. The GB team look in good form, mainly due to Hope Powell being a top of the line coach. Better than Stuart Pearce, that's for sure.

Haha, the answer developed from a LOL (Loreen) to an edit with educational facts. Basically it's a LOL!

Anyway, I'm so pleased that ladies football got a golden moment in Britain (perhaps due to the Scottish players ;)). Hope Powell is unknown (for me at least), but you clearly noticed her during the game. The match between the UK and Canada is surely going to be fundamental for the British team to show its colours. It would be great if they could make it all the way to the final!

France is more or less Olympique Lyonnais, the team that have won the latest UEFA Champions League tournaments (2011 and 2012, in final 2010). This means that most of the players know each other very well and can play a tight game. They are also team-members to Swedish striker Lotta Schelin who knows them well. France is looking for a rematch of last year's UEFA WC bronze match.
