Everytime I'm amazed / amused when the ESC actually makes it into a parliament discussion in a country.

Serbia has been doing this since the Yugo days. Clashing with our Yugo neighbors made the national selections difficult and messy politically. Since we returned in 2004 (especially when we kicked out Montenegro in 2006), cheery-picking entries that were faithful to our cultural values was the way to go.
