RUV will announce if Iceland take part next year tomorrow.

Rúnar Freyr, Head of Delegation for Iceland, confirmed that the decision on whether or not Iceland will participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 will be announced tomorrow. When he was interviewed after Eurovision 2024, Freyr said that he expected Iceland to take part in Basel but that nothing was confirmed yet.

In the same interview, Freyr commented that Israel’s participation had a negative effect on the contest and that it was “not the unifying platform it should be”. Israel’s participation had a number of knock-on effects in Iceland, including Gísli Marteinn Baldursson stepping down from his role as Icelandic Eurovision commentator and viewing figures for the final of Eurovision 2024 dropping by 30% compared to 2023.

And no they didn't, they postponed it to next week.

BUT, because there is a big but (with only one T *cough cough*): this sentence.
“We are still reviewing the issues, including at a meeting attended by our representatives and those of the other nations with Eurovision representatives after the weekend”

OTHER NATIONS?

^^ Iceland have been trolling big time recently.
Actually, I think that it's become quite tiring for us fans.

The wording "meeting representatives from other countries" to discuss whether Iceland should continue taking part in ESC feels very strange.... or are they trying to internally select Bashar Murad?

To be honest after their childish behaviour this year I wouldn´t miss them in Basel. Maybe a break of one year would would help them coming back to their senses. xshrug

Good!

I hope for a less pre-manufactured NF this year. It‘s about time we get a banger from Iceland again. Focus on music, lads! xcheer

Some changes for Söngvakeppnin 2025! > https://nyr.ruv.is/frettir/menning-...nvigid-fellt-ut-i-songvakeppninni-2025-432184

  1. The superfinal is out. It was useless anyway, and everyone remembers 2024 drama around Bashar Murad and Hera Björk. 50/50 between jury and a telephone vote.
  2. Timing. Semifinals 8th and 15th of February, final the 22nd. Not a change: ten songs are participating, BUT six and not five will go to the final.
  3. The inspiration. The head of delegation Rúnar Freyr Gíslason openly points to Melodifestivalen to justify these slight changes.
  4. Selma Björnsdóttir (yes, "All out of Luck") is one of the two artistic directors to the show alongside the Swedish Thomas Benstem - she was already involved in 2024.
  5. Benedikt Valsson, Fannar Sveinsson & Guðrún Dís Emilsdóttir will present the three shows. They all have been presenters some years ago (pre-Covid).
  6. Songs will be presented on January 17th.
That's all!

Damn, another weak line-up.

I think the time of Nordic supremacy at esc is long gone. I think they lost the plot and stayed in 2016. All they have in their national selections are either dated pop songs that nobody cares about or straight-up cringe and messy songs that are trying to be edgy but are in core still very basic and lame music-wise.

Iceland literally has such an amazing underground and indie scene and we very rarely see it. It's so sad.

And how come people always say, "oh, Eurovision is so popular in the Nordics when apart from Finland nobody relevant enters their nf-s. Literally, France and the UK can attract bigger names to put forward than any of the Scandinavian countries and people say that the Brits and French don't care about esc. All of the Balkans, the Netherlands try to send their biggest names, same with the Baltics and Ukraine and even Belgium sometimes (Hooverphonic, Mentissa). But somehow Eurovision is "popular" in the Nordics and not in other countries.
