"Diva" was a huge hit. I think "Wild Dances" was also a very popular number IIRC.

Since you're interested in older entries, quite a few French-language songs became hits in the French and/or Belgian markets even when they didn't win like Luxembourg 1980 "Le Papa Pingouin"

The UK entries prior to the 2000s were often big European hits, regardless of their ESC result, like "Congratulations" or "Ooh Aah Just A Little Bit".

We debut freshly in 1994, and our people and especially music experts don't like Eurovision. So we don't have many Eurovision hits in our country. Only Satellite, Running Scared and Euphoria (maybe eventually Wild Dances and Fairytale).

It's not an old song, but it's often forgotten: Allez Ola Olé by Jessy Matador in 2010. It was a quite successful summer hit especially in west and northern Europe.

In the UK, only eight Eurovision entries have reached number 1. Five of these are British.

Sandie Shaw - Puppet On A String
Cliff Richard - Congratulations
Brotherhood of Man - Save Your Kisses For Me
Bucks Fizz - Making Your Mind Up
Gina G - Ooh Aah ... Just A Little Bit

That means two of our winning entries failed to make it to the top spot. Lulu reached number 2 and was denied a number 1 by Marvin Gaye's Heard It Through The Grapevine. That is still Lulu's highest charting solo single, which is surprising. Katrina And The Waves reached number 3.

Every British entry between 1967 - 1973 made the top 5. The only others to get that high are
Allisons - Are You Sure? (2)
Bardo - One Step Further (2)

... and shamefully
Scooch - Flying The Flag (5)

The non-British number ones are

Dana - All Kinds of Everything
ABBA - Waterloo
Johnny Logan - What's Another Year?
Nicole - A Little Peace (English version of Ein Bisschen Frieden)

The only other non-UK winning songs to make the top 5 are
Vicky Leandros - Apres Toi (2)
Gali Atari and Milk and Honey - Hallelujah (5)
Johnny Logan - Hold Me Now (2)
Loreen - Euphoria (3)

Very subjective (mine) what happened during the years

:gr: 2005 Helena Paparizou - My Number One - huge hit in Sweden
:se: 2012 Loreen - Euphoria - megahit

Melodifestivalen
:se: Sarah Dawn Finer - I Remember Love(2007), Moving On(2009) (megahits)

I don't know if there are figures about this for Sweden. It's very likely and it's also very likely someone already have done an analysis and presented a resultlist. Charts are a bit special in Sweden though unless using the mainstream chart Svensktoppen.

A lot of swedish songs has become hits in norway, like "Diggilo diggiley" and "Främling" from the 80's. And Jan Johansons "se på mig" is also a well known and treasured song in norway, together with Popular and Euphoria. Katrina and the Waves also made an impression here, not to mention Germanys "Ein bissen frieden" and "Djhengis Kahn" (last one is unforgettable, to me it's the most epic entry ever). Cliff Richards "Congratulations" is an evergreen, like Waterloo and "Making my mind up". Israel presented us with Lazy Bums "Shir habatlanim", also epic. But "Hold me now" was a real monsterhit, my fav winner of them all :)

It seems that in history of eurovision, there are some periods that i call "weak".
1959-1963,
1983-1986,
1999-2002.
Nothing really important happened in these years.
