Welcome to another FSC Spin-Off!
Welcome to the FSC May 2024 Spin-Off ft. ‘Guilty Pleasure Songs’ from all around the world. Our
host city is El Alto, Bolivia . Spanish for "The Heights", it is the 2nd-largest city in Bolivia, locat
ed adjacent to La Paz in Pedro Domingo Murillo Province on the Altiplano highlands. El Alto is to
day one of Bolivia's fastest-growing urban/city centers, with population estimated of ca 945.000.
El Alto is also the highest major city in the world with an average elevation of 4.000 m.The El Alto
–La Paz metropolitan area constitutes the most populous urban area of Bolivia, with a population
of about 2.2 million. El Alto is developing and a cable car system connects the city with La Paz. A
locally indigenous colourful Neo-Andean architectural style has developed alongside this growth.
The dry & inclement plain above La Paz was uninhabited until 1903 when the newly built railways
from Lake Titicaca and Arica reached the rim of the canyon. In 1939 El Alto's first elementary sch
ool opened. El Alto started to grow tremendously in the 1950s when the settlement was connect
ed to La Paz's water supply, and building land in the canyon became more scarce and expensive.
In March 1985 the district of El Alto and its surroundings were politically separated from the City
of La Paz . In 1987 El Alto was formally incorporated as a city. The city has a cold climate due to
its geography. El Alto is the largest city in Latin America with a mostly Indigenous population. Ab
out 76% of its inhabitants are Aymara, 9% are Quechua, 15% are Mestizo, & less than 0.1% White.
