Welcome to another FSC Spin-Off!
Welcome to the FSC August 2023 Spin-Off , featuring favourite Covers/Remixes from around the
world . Our host city is Asunción, Paraguay , the capital and the largest city of Paraguay. The
city stands on the eastern bank of the Paraguay River , there where it meets the Pilcomayo River.
The Paraguay River and the Bay of Asunción, separate the city from Argentina in the city's south.
Asunción is one of the oldest cities in South America , and the longest continually inhabited area
in the Río de la Plata Basin; for this reason it's known as "the Mother of Cities". The Asunción me
tropolitan area has around 2 million inhabitants. It is the home of the national government, princi
pal port , and the chief industrial , political , economic / financial and cultural center of Paraguay.
The Spanish conquistador Juan de Ayolas (died c. 1537) may have first visited the site of the fut
ure city on his way north, up the Paraguay River. Subsequent travellers found the natives friendly,
and decided to found a fort there in August 1537 . It was named Nuestra Señora Santa María de
la Asunción (Our Lady Saint Mary of the Assumption) . Later it was center of a Spanish province.
In 1731, an uprising under José de Antequera y Castro was one of the first rebellions against Spa
nish colonial rule. The uprising failed, but the event influenced the independence of Paraguay, wh
ich materialized in 1811 . Roads were built throughout the city and the streets were named. Later
more than 400 schools, metallurgic factories and 1st railroad service in South America were built
