Okay, that was surprising? Maybe it is just a normal show that will just be shown on BBC (and problably SVT too then), and the big celebration will still be held in Berlin?

We have to wait and see I guess. :p

I wouldn't imagine the BBC hiring Petra Mede to host it though, they would have selected someone else like Fearne Cotton or Claudia Winkleman. They wouldn't need help from SVT either because they have the resources themselves. It really does look like it is the real deal here. Berlin just expressed an interest in it.

ugh Graham and Petra really?? The incredibly unfunny replacement to the comic genius that was Terry Wogan and the worst host since 1999?? I'm really not looking forward to this.

Is that suppose to be a joke?

What? Even if you don't like Petra Mede you can't say she was worse than the 2012 hosts.

In 2012 we were given people with no personalities and a shaky grasp of English and French. Much better than what we got in 2013, an arrogant personality who thought she was hosting "The Petra Mede Show! (featuring some European singers or something)". Give me shrill Nargiz, mumbly Leila, and that clown Eldar any day over that wagon Mede.

BBC are such wannabes. Struggling to win Eurovision, they snatch the anniversary show. I think the anniversary should be held in Lausanne.

Well with that logic it should have been held in Lausanne in 2005 as well instead of Copenhagen... And they didn't "snatch" it from anywhere. Berlin only expressed an interest and that was published in an article by oiktimes, so we don't actually know how true that is.

Sry to correct you, but Jan Ola Sand mentioned during the EBU press conference in Copenhagen this year that the show could possibly take place in Berlin. So not just an Oikotime rumor ;-)

("Jon Ola Sand mentioned that the EBU was currently in dialogue with a number of broadcasters around Europe with the aim of arranging a special 60th celebratory event. German broadcaster NDR was mentioned, as was the possibility that a grand event could possible be taking place in Berlin next year." - Eurovision 2014 Day 5 - The EBU Press Conference | Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen - EuroVisionary )

ok maybe so. But rest of what I say still stands. It doesn't say for certain it was going to be held in Berlin? xshrug merely an expressed wish to host it and Jon Ola Sand saying it's a possibility. It doesn't mean anything was set in stone.

I am already excited about which song is going to win the title of best ESC song ever.

Waterloo is the champion and it has the best chances to win again.

I also would add Germany 1982 - Ein bisschen Frieden. For me this is the most relevant ESC song of all times!

From the last decade, I would suggest that Finland 2006, Serbia 2007, Norway 2009, Sweden 2012 and of course Conchita have a shot at the Crown. All of these winners added extra value to Eurovision and made it hugely popular again.

One of my personal favourites would be Norway 1995, I love Nocturne even more now than I did when it won!

As for the best shows, I would nominate Ireland twice. Their presentations in 1988 and 1995 were absolutely amazing!

Norway 2010 also was stunning, a classy gala night and still a big party.

Also the Netherlands and Israel gave us great shows in the 70's!

2013 and 2014 both became a show about the hosts, who should be seen and not made into some feature of the show. The Danes annoyed me more though, I was pretty happy with 2012 as they didn't try and take over the thing. The last hosts I really liked were Alsou and Ivan although that could have been because of how dreadful the Semi Final hosts were in Moscow.

Frankly this show sounds awful, bear in mind BBC snubbed the 50th Anniversary Show and now commandeer the hosting of this. Given the style of show the BBC likes to do I'm expecting plenty of terribly not funny "skits" and likely a bias towards the Western European countries in this anniversary.

The BBC snubbed the 50 year show as they were going to host it but the BBC were going to spend a lot on it. The EBU wanted to do the whole thing on the cheap and the BBC said that the budget meant the show would be substandard. What DR produced was exactly that something average at best.
