I'm doing a time-consuming project where I'm holding a tournament for every Eurovision contest. The point of this tournament is to determine what the best song from each year is, and then to have a tournament with all the winners to determine what the best ESC song of all time is. I started with 1984 and just finished 1985. I plan to go chronologically through 1990, then go back and do 1980-83. Not sure what I'll do after that. If there's any interest I can post threads here whenever I finish a year.

The winner of 1985 was Für alle by Wind for Germany, beating the actual winner, La Det Swinge by Bobbysocks for Norway, in the final. Wind wins the right to represent 1985 in the main tournament. I found my opinions lined up with the juries much more than they did in 1984. My top two songs were also the juries' top two songs, although we had them flipped. Three of my top four were three of the actual top four. The only exception was Eläköön elämä by Sonja Lumme from Finland, which the juries only rated 9th but ended up being my third favorite. If you have the time I really recommend you give it a listen. It's a seriously underrated entry from a country whose songs are almost always terrible.
