Breaking an unwritten rule I have for sending entries; I don't send artists other nations have sent unless I know about them outside NSC. In a way, that keeps NSC discoveries special to me, a separate type of music that I have the NSC community entirely to thank for.

The recent circumstances have allowed this rule to break just the once so we can pay tribute to Orangualia/Alex in the only way I know how, by sharing the music he passionately shared with us over the last 15 years. I don't think Alex is even a Eurovision fan, I he's here entirely because he loves music and sharing that love with people. So with that, I decided the best way to pay tribute would be to send something he brought into my life. The problem with that is we have very similar tastes in music and most of his entries are artists or songs that I already know (not a complaint, we just live in the same headspace) but looking through the database of Orangualia entries there are loads of hidden gems, great discoveries and underrated robberies that I'm sure Alex would be happy to see someone give a second chance to. One artist who Orangualia introduced to me stuck out though....

Joseph Carré - Les Fantômes was sent by Orangualia to NSC 214. Not an immediate hit, I think I gave it 7 or 8 in the semi. But by the time the final rolled around, it had grown on me and was by some distance my 12 in the final. It ended 2nd in the final, which was a much higher result than I predicted. By the time the decade was over and we were approaching Congrats 22 I told Alex it was the best song of the decade and he should send it there, but he didn't take part in the end, oh well! I listened to Joseph Carré's back catalogue and enjoyed it, and was surprised that he has so few Spotify listens and Youtube views. This guy is producing amazing synthpop that sounds straight from the 80s but with a very crisp sound and not getting much attention. One of his songs really sticks out, amidst the heavy synths and distortion he has a very simple almost acoustic track which, although I dont speak French, speaks to a sense of missing and longing for someone.

So this is Doire's entry for NSC 240 in Orangualia - a hidden gem of an artist who I never would have known about without Alex. Thank you for many years of incredible music and sharing the love.
