I'm still not optimistic on their future in ESC and believe this could be their swan song especially after picking a non-Czech but only time will tell.
I think so as well. My read on the situation is that the delegation is under pressure to deliver a big result, or else. From a friend who works in ČT I know there was in fact a huge wave of disappointment after Vesna's result and Kryštof also spoke about something similar on a livestream I believe in 2022 - "we need to win, or at least get a couple of top 3s, ASAP." Which is a crazy mentality for something as competitive as Eurovision, and it's kind of crazy given our generally ok results, but I think this kind of pressure really is there. So they have to roll the dice, try to make some sort of a hype and cross their fingers.I'm still not optimistic on their future in ESC and believe this could be their swan song especially after picking a non-Czech but only time will tell.
I am in fact very happy about us sneaking through some Slovak representation, although the general public might not be. It's the fourth year in a row where we send someone who wasn't a Czech by birth as a part of our act. I think in most other countries sans microstates this would be unthinkable and while it probably is a part of ČT's admitted strategy of making ESCZ a platform extending our borders, it might make things harder for the general public to connect with them and by extension, with Eurovision.Mmh - He lives in Prague. He works in Czechia. His sister live there... so you could say that they fully emigrated to Czechia.
Apparently, international juries and demoscopic juries had more power than Czechia's channel but ADONX won all 3 juries over - I don't think that no other interesting Czech artists wanted to apply - it really seems that Eurovision has become popular among newcomers, indie acts and pop acts in Czechia... and it's great to see someone as successful as ADONX represent the country.
Let's hope that his participation will bring in more Czech viewers, though - so that Czechia's future will always be in Eurovision!![]()
I know that those of us in the fan bubble focus on so many things that other people are unaware of, but you really have to wonder what some people are smoking when they demand "a couple of top 3s!" Since the Czech Republic / Czechia came back, I've counted six countries that have managed "a couple of top 3s" in that period: Sweden, Russia, Italy, Ukraine, Israel and Switzerland. All of their entries that got 3rd, 2nd or 1st place had some sort of hype behind them well before the contest. WithI think so as well.
