The pressure is growing toward BHRT to finally bring the country back. Media and public, after Croatian success, started to wonder a bit more about the fact we have been absent for so long. BHRT claims they had to cut Eurovision in order to keep the national broadcaster alive. While they did that, BHRT continued to fall apart so Eurovision withdrawal did not save it from collapse. So, withdrawal decision does not have a rational explanation ie had no impact on "saving" BHRT.

The debt (that must be paid to EBU) stands at 6.1 million EUR. Reform of the national broadcaster is one of the 14 priorities defined by the EU to start negotiations talks with Bosnia (in March 2024 they officially announced opening of talks) which means the state institutions will have to make a long-term deal for financing the state television(s). This legislation will for sure allow BHRT to direct money toward international events (at one point they couldn't even broadcast other international events, including sport stuff etc.)

The whole problem is highly political and money is just the consequence: entities' broadcasters (both, Republika Srpska TV and Federal TV) own money to the BHRT. Last week BHRT cut providing services to entity broadcaster FTV because FTV ownes some big money to BHRT.

To cut it, there is a lot of soap drama, but Bosnia is strange with its system and compromise seeking decision-making, so I expect them to suddenly make a deal at the end.

Ok I know that they want to participate, but this is not enough at all.

The only chance I can see them returning, if there is a rich artist there that will pay for everything.

In Bosnia they dont speak Montenegrin.

They speak a language similar to Serbian.

If the song was in Sebian or in Serbocroatian or in Croatian, then I would say yes.

But the Bosnian language is not similar to any of the rest ex-yugoslavic languages.

Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian (and Montenegrin) and literally the same language - there are minor differences, mostly regional, accent is of course different, but it is a single polycentric language with some variations (lets say like British English vs American English).

So, if a Bosnian, a Slovenian and a North Macedonian go out for or a coffee, they would communicate properly ?

There are intentions to sell the main building of the television and use that money to pay off the debt the television owes - that is scheduled for September so it remains to be seen what will happen. xup
