Bees swarm Zagreb city square
Croatian Times
Thousands of bees swarmed onto Zagreb's central square Trg Bana Jelacica yesterday, targeting flowerpots hanging on electric poles.
Ice-cream vendor Augustin Djakovic first reacted to the potential danger, alerting the emergency who summoned the beekeeper service.
Damir Rogulja, the coordinator of Zagreb beekeepers service, explained that for bees, this is their ‘time for love’. "They are procreating and looking for habitat," he said.
He added that this was their 10th intervention that day. "This year we have had 50 interventions so far, and last year 172.
"Three people died last year because a bee stung them," he added.
