It's sort of sad that it's taken a month before someone commented on Azerbaijan next year in here.

I really hopes that Azerbaijan will give us something like "Drip Drop" again, a song who could win the competition. Not top five or ten places for Azerbaijan the consecutive years, (still, the song is great and I love them, especially Start A Fire,) so they needs a top five place again!

I am still waiting for Always 2.0 and this is the most appropriate time unless they want to fail again xshrug

Agree, we need another Always. I'd also like Aysel back :)

If Azerbaijan want to start doing well again they have 2 options:

Send something like "Always", fast ethnic pop fun... - the slow songs haven't been working recently
or
Start buying votes again - since the EBU declared they will DQ anyone for buying votes they havent been doing so well.

Since Armenia said they go with a fun uptempo act....then I am sure that Azerbaijan wants to answer with something similar. ;) And I agree, it is time for some uptempo, a bit like Always, or even more modern perhaps. :)

In 2014 & 2015 Azerbaijan squeezed through to the Finals so a Non-Qualification is definitely within the realm of possibility. I wonder if they're going to change things up this year now that they haven't been doing that great. Or at least not as good in previous years. With 18 to 19 songs in the Semis, it's going to be a bit more difficult this time around.

Re: AZERBAIJAN 2016

I feel like the usual team Azerbaijan works with has gotten quite uninspired lately, "Hour Of The Wolf" didn't live up to my expectations.

I'm first and foremost a ballad lover, but I agree they should consider an uptempo entry this time, it's been a long time since they went that route. And I hope they'll polish their presentation, somehow I was getting used to their creative ways of staging their entries, and in this regard, last year's effort wasn't really appealing to me. The whole performance looked (and sounded) messy and unimpressive.

They were saved by juries twice, that's true. I think they should try a little bit harder, their desire to host has now passed, but I'm sure a non-qualification would offend them, so if they don't want it to happen, they'd better leave their comfort zone.

I loved Hour of the Wolf as a song - it's probably still one of my top three songs from last year's contest, and maybe my equal favourite entry from Azerbaijan - but I agree it didn't come across as well live. I mean, I still enjoyed it, but Elnur's enunciation was all weird, he still couldn't resist the temptation to throw in his own little improvised notes, and while I get what the staging was aiming for it didn't manage it perfectly.

Regardless, I do agree that I'd like to see Azerbaijan have another crack at sending an upbeat song. Their 2009 entry was a bunch of fun that deserved its third place finish, and with ballads slowly growing more and more popular in the contest I'd have no complaints if they sent something else fast, danceable and catchy for 2016.

Azerbaijan isn't ready to send a great song yet, Hour of the Wolf was catchy but it shouldn't have been qualified instead of Czech Republic.

They need to go back to their roots, we have NEVER seen an ethnic song from Azerbaijan, only western songs with a little hint of Azeri culture.

Re: AZERBAIJAN 2016

Hello, Just thought I'd wonder back into this thread for the first time since June to sorta back up some calls for Ethno pop, instead of yet another ballad. Please give us an 'Always' 2.0. Thank you xox

Re: AZERBAIJAN 2016

Not a bad voice, if the rumour above is true, but I always find it really hard to judge a Eurovision artist by their previous songs. So often I've gotten hyped or disappointed by a chosen/rumoured artist, only for them to sing in a completely new genre for them at Eurovision, get far better (or somehow worse) at singing over the period before the contest, have a song much better or worse than their vocal abilities, etc. I'll hold off on any real judgement for now, though her vocals are at least interesting.
