I think :mk: has a rock ballad, I don't think it has pop inside. Just my opinion, I suck in categorizing songs! I was thinking today about the Icelandic entry, in which genre I'd put it, and I couldn't think! I guess it's a folk pop-rock ballad. I get some rock influence from it.

Iceland: Gréta Salóme & Jónsi - Never Forget

Genre: Folk pop. "Never Forget" is a powerful, symphonic ballad with an epic touch. Song meaning: The Icelandic entry tells a story about two lovers who used to be together in the past, but due to the memories they still treasure about each other, the links between them remain somehow unbroken.

Germany: Roman Lob - Standing Still
50px-EuroAlemania.svg.png

Genre: Piano pop. "Standing Still" is a midtempo ballad. Song meaning: The song is about a guy who is standing still as his girl left him. The guy is freed as he is stronger than ever after he broke up. The song tells us that he knows that he will not become anymore closer to his former love.

Slovakia: Max Jason Mai - Don't Close Your Eyes
50px-EuroEslovaquia.svg.png

Genre & Song meaning: "Don’t Close Your Eyes" is a rocky entry about a heart broken person. There is a plea in the lyrics of the Slovak entry to the Eurovision Song Contest.

Thanks for your opinion. :) Well, I put pop-rock because I find it very radio-friendly. It is a rock ballad indeed (I will avoid the term "ballad" because it's not a music genre), but it has mainstream appeal (something different from Slovakia's entry which is purely rock). ;)

Be patient. :) I need extra time to think about their music genre. Can you help me on that, please?
tbh, I was waiting for you to say something about it first so I could agree or disagree

how about we just call it "fusion"? xcookie

OK, I am conducting a little investigation about it. It's definitely not Balkan pop - it's too unsual. This is interesting. :) Balkan folk?

it does have some folk sound, yes. but in general, it's very very far from balkan folk song. that folk sound in the song actually has purpose (it confronts "simple people" to Euro). at least that's the way I see it.

Hey, I was listening to turbo-folk (a musical sub-genre that originated in the Balkans) music in Youtube. "Euro Neuro" uses a similar synthesizer, but it's a little bit slower. This is really hard. But with the help of someone from the Balkans (you) it's going to be easier for me. :)

turbo-folk, as a genre, is very simple. characteristic music + over-the-top dramatic lyrics about lost love (in most cases). it definetly doesn't relate to any social/political problems, that would be more in hip-hop/rap style, in which he performs the song ;)

Thanks. Balkan folk could be the best choice then. Other options: progressive Balkan folk, Balkan fusion, Balkan soul funk.

What do you think?

tbh, I would just call it "fusion" then, like I suggested b4 xshrug
it does have elements of folk, funk, hip-hop, maybe some others that I can't identify  and emphasising just 1 element doesn't do justice to this entry

Maybe the outcome is going to be "Balkan folk, balkan fusion". It's hard. "Euro Neuro" is one of a kind. It cracks me up.

Let's play a little game! Do you want it, guys?

The next entry is a country pop song. Any guess? Tell me the country I am talking about. Come on.
