The rule actually is for people to check the database to see if the song they want to submit has already been used, not necessarily songs that have won. "Fairytale of New York" would be ineligible since it was already sent in the 2013 edition

I'm injecting a little piece of Eurobeat festive cheer into your season this year peeps with the legendary Virginelle (alias of Elena Gobbi Frattini) - weirdly, when I think of Christmas and think of Christmas songs, my brain always goes "So bright, tonight, we say Merry Christmas!"

Might not be your traditional classic Christmas song, but it's a tradition for me now and has been for over half my life. Enjoy, and all the best wishes and love for the season to your nearest and dearest!

This was a lovely little start to Christmas day waiting for my sleeping beauty to arise

My entry will flop hard, but it's not the point.

In the couple of days right before Christmas three radio DJs enter a box which is sat on a town square somewhere in the Netherlands. There they will perform a marathon broadcast, all to raise money for charity. In 2015 this one DJ talked about how it had been years for any new Christmas song to become a staple and there was this American artist who could do it and started playing this song like once every 45 minutes or so. People outside obviously started looking this dude up and sure enough there was a website and some mentions here and there, but no news about any shows he'd done or whatever. It was all in all fishy at best. Of course after a while he had to reveal that Gary Fomdeck was indeed this DJ himself, Gerard Ekdom, but as the other DJs were holed up they had absolutely no idea and the practical joke totally worked. Attention for the charity was high as ever due to this absolute masterpiece of a joke playing out live on radio (and TV) and all proceedings for the song went to the same charity, leading to "I'll Be There This Christmas' becoming a number one hit. A year later the song was essentially forgotten as it's wank.
