i watched an interview with him and he seems such a lovely guy, the hate thing is really rotten, hope he will have fun at esc.
he mentioned milkshake and espresso macchiato to go with the poison cake :)
anyway, i think i'm interested in his future as an artist.

Yes, the second half of this semi was always going to be a loud mess, anyone could flop or rise to the occasion. If the performance is good, this can make it. It's still the messiest of them all but it's also the most interesting.

This is one of those entries where it seems most people dislike it, while it's one of my favorites. Currently my number 5 on the board. I do understand why it's not for everyone though, it's quite experimental. The first clip I ever heard of it was of the pre-chorus, and my initial reaction was "what the...", but once the "take a bite of my poison cake" hit I was digging it. It's right up my alley, and when I saw the music video my love for it was increased more. I hope the semi performance will be great and that there is a chance, as I would love to see him in the final, but I won't be surprised if that doesn't happen, just a bit sad.

Today it was :hr: turn at the ESC kompakt songchecks 2025.

The verdict of the bloggers:

Benny - First of all, I find this entry very interesting and creative. I like the alternation between the sweet, melodic parts and the hard, edgy parts. I also think this interplay was well executed by Dora – although it certainly could have been improved. In the end though "Poison Cake" is a song that only works on stage for me and that I don't need to listen to on repeat "in everyday life." :5:

Berenike - These different parts of the song do have a certain entertainment value, at least I watched the performance with excitement from start to finish at the first time. I also like the mix of "perfect world" and dystopian. But I don't really like the song, the chorus, in particular, where Marko just screams "Poison Cake" the whole time, is rather disturbing. And the lyrics are truly beyond strange. I'd rather listen to the unpoisoned, cheerful "Cake to Bake" from Latvia. :5:

Douze Points - The best thing about the song is its message—and Marko's charisma. The rest of it hurts my ears and keeps losing me throughout the three minutes. I'm curious to see how the revised performance for Basel is supposed to save it. :2:

Giulia - Generally speaking, I'm happy about anything that isn't boring and run-of-the-mill. Thanks to Croatia for that. Still, listening to the whole spectacle is just exhausting. :2:

Max - One of the total failures of this year for me, I'm so sorry. I know that songs that have a lot going on and mix different genres are in vogue. I just think "Poison Cake" fails to master this often difficult balancing act and descends into chaos. At least I can award a few consolation points for originality. :2:

Marko Bošnjak - "Poison Cake" | Croatia Eurovision 2025 at the London Eurovision Party 2025

Very good performance for Marko in London. I hope they are preparing a great staging for Basel, this song asks for it!

Marko has such a lovely voice, and he is a great performer. I really hope the staging slaps, because the song can work as a performance IMO.

Also, I saw a Video of Marko tearing up during an interview in London. He was asked about his experience at the pre-parties I think, and said that he loves being there because he feels so supported and loved, in contrast to the negativity he is getting in Croatia after coming out. Almost made me tear up with him.
And in another Interview, he said coming out Was the right thing to do, because while it is hard for him now, it will make it easier for someone else to do it in the future. He is such a precious bean 🥺

I feel a bit sorry for this guy. I really don't like his song, being honest. But no one deserves personal abuse, or homophobia. Nice to hear that he feels supported at ESC events.

This guy Marko has a good heart. I hope he knows he's already made a positive impact representing his country just by staying true to himself, despite knowing his country's social issues.
