I'm glad Germany's finally using their own language, but there's not all that much to say about this one. For a straight-up dance music track it is too held back, it has, not coincidentally, no balls. It really resembles the kind of music they play to "warm up the audience" before the show starts, more than an actual ESC entry.
The staging can and will obviously be changed, but it was way too dark, the singer looked like a wannabe Lena, the cello "playing" was pointless (i could hardly hear any cello in the song, was there one?) and the part where the duo danced on the front of the stage looked silly and underwhelming with the rest of the stage just empty behind them.
It seems Germany and the UK have the same problem when they really try to send something "fresh, youthful and different", it just feels too restrained, not radical enough, and just out of touch in some ways that's hard to define. With an extravagant staging, this could be Germany's Olly, or their Mae Muller if she really screws up the vocals. I kinda want to think this will do better than usual, but given their nonexistant skills at promoting and creating an image for their entries, i'd say it'll be hard to get above 20th place.
Finally, i don't usually listen to non-winning entries from other countries, but i really had to check out "Knightclub", and it really wasn't that good. The gimmick wears down quickly, and they would probably have to scale down the staging for the ESC anyway, leading to another "Blood & Glitter" situation, especially in a year already overstuffed with joke entries.
