Members of the Eurovision class of 2022 may once again find themselves facing off in competition, as artists have begun confirming their consideration for the 65th Grammy Awards.
Konstrakta, who represented Serbia with the song “In Corpore Sano”, announced her consideration for two categories: Best New Artist, and Best Global Music Performance. The song is already an award winner, having taken home the Marcel Bezençon award for most artistic performance at the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest in Turin. The song went on to place 5th in the contest with 312 points, marking the most points for Serbia in the contest, and the country’s best placement in 10 years. Additionally, Konstrakta’s potential nomination would make her the first Serbian woman to be nominated for a Grammy.
Joining Konstrakta in consideration for multiple awards is artist Maro, who represented Portugal with the song “Saudade, saudade”. Maro announced in a post on Instagram that her album “Can You See Me?” had been submitted in multiple categories: Best New Album, Pop Vocal Album, Album of the Year, Global Music Album, Pop Solo Performance, Song of the Year, and Record of the Year, while her Eurovision entry “Saudade, saudade” was submitted for Global Music Performance.
In addition to the announcements from Konstrakta and Maro, a few other familiar faces have appeared in the Grammy’s speculation. Rosa Linn, who represented Armenia with the song “Snap”, was featured in HITS Magazine’s Grammy’s Preview spread. She was quoted in the feature as saying, “The Grammy’s are the pinnacle of musical achievement, not only in the States but world wide. Being able to represent my country of Armenia, where very few artists have had the opportunity to be nominated, would mean everything to me. I’m working every day to put my culture on the map in a way that has never been done before. The exposure the Grammy’s would give me and my country would be immeasurable.” Rosa Linn has become a viral sensation thanks to the popularity of “Snap” on TikTok and other social media platforms. It is the second Eurovision song to reach the Billboard Top 100 in the 21st Century.
Additionally, Måneskin has been named as a possible contender for Best New Artist. After winning Eurovision 2021 for Italy, Måneskin became a global sensation, with their song “Beggin'” reaching number 13 in the Billboard Top 100. The band has been nominated for several other awards, including their wins at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards and Video Music Awards. Despite the speculation around their eligibility for Best New Artist in 2023, the band has not confirmed their consideration.
The first round voting window for the 2023 Grammy’s opened on October 13th and closed Sunday, October 23rd. Nominees will be announced on November 15th, 2022. The 65th Grammy Awards will broadcast live on Sunday, February 5th 2023.
