What a year it has been for Finland, not only did the country blow viewers out of their minds by winning the public vote, but they also achieved their officially second ever best result in their over 60 year long history. As much as a victory would’ve probably have been preferred, the Finns are not ready to give up, just yet!

Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2024

The Finnish national final, which is known as Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu – or UMK in short – will return in 2024. After Käärijä‘s historic result in Liverpool, Finland is ready to go the extra step needed in order to secure victory, and remain hopeful that the historic result will inspire artists, as well as songwriters, to pitch in for the national final next year.

Not much has been revealed at the moment, but more details will be shared at a later time. For now, it has been announced that the song submission period will be between the 21st and 24th of August 2023, a period of only 3 days.

More importantly, the period is even before the actual allowed song release date for the actual contest, in order to keep everything completely sealed away from the public, until the time comes.

For 2023, 7 acts were picked to compete and among them, we found Käärijä‘s “Cha Cha Cha“. Voting format and the amount of songs that will compete in 2024 will also be revealed at a later date.

What made Käärijä‘s result so historic, is that it was the first time ever, that a song fully performed in Finnish, had finished this high. Finland made their debut in 1961, but only this year, they managed to score their second ever top 5 result. “Cha Cha Cha” impressed viewers from 18 countries, receiving that many amount of 12 points from the public in the final. In total, Finland gathered 376 points from the public and ended up with 526 points in the final.

If you can’t get enough of Käärijä, then fret not, because there will be a special homecoming concert from Helsinki Ice Hall, which will even be broadcasted live on yle. The concert is scheduled to take happen on the 20th May 2023 – this upcoming Saturday – starting at 19:00 (7 PM) CET – It’s crazy, it’s party!
