Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu, Finland’s national selection for Eurovision, has certainly put the Nordic nation back on the map when it comes to high quality, exciting and interesting selection shows in recent years. With a variety of genres winning the Finnish contest including punk rock, indie pop, a piano ballad and cheesy pop, it would be hard to predict exactly what Finland could go for in Lisbon.

Luckily though, we don’t have long to wait before we have an idea of the performers in Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2018!

YLE have this morning confirmed that the artists set to fight for Finland’s ticket to Lisbon will be announced to the public in a press conference on Tuesday 7th November, held by Krista Siegfrids and Mikko Silvennoinen from 13:00 CET on this day. YLE – tapping into the international Eurovision fanbase and their love for all things National Final – will broadcast this press conference online on the UMK website as well as on Facebook and YouTube!

The format and more details of the competition will also be revealed on this date. It has not yet been confirmed whether the semi-final rounds will return or if the 2017 format of one show will continue.

Finland will be hoping to make amends for recent results after failing to qualify for the final for three years in a row. Norma John’s “Blackbird” was a surprising non-qualifier in Kyiv. Softengine, Finland’s last Eurovision finalists, finished 11th in Copenhagen, the nation’s best result since Lordi.
