Things are getting started in Liverpool as the Eurovision 2023 stage construction has begun on Monday at the M&S Bank Arena. The BBC also revealed some behind the scenes videos.
In six weeks, the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 will take place in Liverpool, this year’s host city. And this Monday, Stage One Creative Services has begun the construction of the stage where all 37 participating countries will perform their song and, hopefully, win it all.
The Breakfast show on BBC has revealed first details on the stage construction for this year’s Eurovision, and things are heating up at the M&S Bank Arena, where it will all happen on May 9, 11 and 13.
2 weeks to build the stage
The technicians from Stage One Creative Services, the company responsible for building the stage, have around two weeks to build the impressive Eurovision stage before the rehearsals kick in and the live shows.
The operation includes the construction of the big stage, a small stage in the middle of the arena and of course the green room where the artists will gather before and after performing and watch the results live, as the BBC points out. All of this represents no less than 260 individual components to build the 450 square meters main stage.
“We are building something that is for a contest so it has to work practically as we have to get 37 delegations on and off the set,” said James O’Brien, the BBC executive in charge of production at the M&S Bank Arena. He added that “the progress has been absolutely amazing so far”.
Work is underway to create the stage for the Eurovision Song Contest with just six weeks to go to the big night.

The creative team prepared for months beforehand, but “Stage One have picked up the challenge to build the stage in such a short timeframe and ran with it”, said James O’Brien. In addition, Stage One has worked on many other huge events in the past, including The Brit Awards and the Opening Ceremonies of the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
As a reminder, the stage design for the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 was made by Julio Himede, who designed many stage for huge events such as the 64th Grammy Awards and the American Song Contest. The Eurovision stage is said to be ready by late April for the stand-in rehearsals, which take place before the countries’ rehearsals and finally the live shows.
