Last Thursday, ERR, the national broadcaster in Estonia has released the first batch of songs which will compete in the 2nd semi-final of Eesti Laul. The 2nd semi-final is scheduled for the 18th February 2017. Today, Angeelia, who is one of the participants in this 2nd semi-final has found some time to talk with us about his upcoming participation in Eesti Laul.
Hello Angeelia
First of all thank you for your time talking to us. How are you ? Can you introduce yourselves ? What can you tell us about yourself?
Hey folks! First thanks to you and I am doing pretty good.
I am Angeelia Maasik, 24 years old and truly passionate about music, arts, nature and photography. The way especially music speaks and the way I feel it, hear it around us, makes me want to create my own expression of it and share it with other thirsty hearts. It’s all about the vibrations to feel, to heal, to get comfort from. As I wasn’t born into a musicians family, practising and developing on my own was on daily basis. For digging some hidden treasures inside I love to just sit down, have a cup of tea, draw perhaps a mandala, paint or read and let the vocals carry out the melodies in harmony of an instrument. Nature has also a huge role for me in finding peace and resting from other’s energies and the loudness to get loaded. I want to hold my senses opened. So I’d describe myself as the worshiper of our Mother Earth’s beauty and the individual creativity we hold inside. By seeking your own passion as your mission to have the impact you’re here for, takes admirable courage and belief. I wish everyone to find and search for it..
I also have a 6 year old daughter Isabella whose company I truly admire. We inspire each other a lot every day, always learning something new from ourselves. Also I deeply admire my life partner and the other half of mine Mick (who also took part from the Eesti Laul last year). The flame we have between and the deep understanding doubles our power driven by love and passion for music and each other.
Your song that you will be presenting for the Eesti Laul is “We ride with our flow”. What can you tell us about the song?
This song we made in cooperation with Andres Kõpper aka NOËP. It actually took place just about a week before the last date to participate in Eesti Laul. Basically Andres took some parts of vocal from my first single ”Flew” and placed them on some random acoustic track just for fun and after he’d sent it to me, I felt like: ”Wow, we could get some good stuff out from here.. send me the track, I wanna think something up.” I really liked the sound.. of course it changed a lot after production with the new words and melodies, but the idea was to create a new fresh a bit indie-mixed-new-age kind of song. I never place myself really in any genre, cause I just ride with my flow, you know!
What was the inspiration for the song, and did you write it specifically for Eesti Laul and Eurovision?
I probably talked it all out previously, but yeah it just born out of random act and feeling that carried out something special..
What is your impression of the Eurovision Song Contest in general? Do you watch it every year? What is your favourite entry?
I think it’s a really good platform for artists to introduce their music to a larger audience all over the Europe. I’ve watched the Eurovision most years, but not every. I haven’t picked out a certain favorite one, but there has been many good entries I’ve listened on repeat afterwards.
Apart from the Eurovision Song Contest , where would you dream to do a performance?
My wish is to simply perform and bring my music to as many people and countries as possible. ♥
Do you think performing at the Eurovision Song Contest will have a positive impact on your career?
Definitely.
Can you tell us about your first experience with music?
I remember being just few years old as I danced and sang along by the radio music with my yellow paper crown on. I guess that’s what I loved to do with most of my free time. It made me cheer life! Later, on the age of 7 I wrote somehow roughly my first song about the rainbow. I remember I didn’t have any recorder so I just sang the written lines as long as I remembered them. No wonder my mom and dad had their head full of stars in some case.
How do you describe your music to people?
I’d describe my music as inspiration of people, feelings, emotions and nature. I have the main core message and it is Love – the most powerful force, also the most important! Doing something you love and through love, is the perfect combo. By letting it all to flow as a river through, the melodies come, the words come and they became to resonate.. the process is really beautiful. It is all around us. Gotta see it, catch it and put the puzzle together to share the whole beauty..
What is a typical day like for you?
My typical day.. right now I’m glad to tell is always handling something new. I can focus on doing music and design stuff mostly with various different projects in hand, that include a lot new opportunities. So, I like how it breaks the routine, so you won’t get locked up easily. You get inspired by every step and feel the growth.
Angeelia thanks for your time. We wish you the best of luck for Eesti Laul. Maybe we see you in May in Kiev!
